Barbara Sue Santos (1944-2017)

Barbara was a fifth generation Santa Barbara native. She was born to William and Jeanette Blades on June 3, 1944. She grew up on the Mesa, and graduated from Santa Barbara High School. She married Dennis Santos in 1964, and they were married 53 years. Barbara had a great love for Kauai, Dennis’ home island, visiting often enjoying family history, collecting seashells on the beach, and her favorite Kauai restaurants.

One of her most precious memories was getting to take her grandchildren to the island. Barbara worked for the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Dept. as an emergency dispatcher, and was a member of St. Raphael’s parish. She had an unwavering faith and deep love for her Lord.

 

Barbara is survived by her husband Dennis, her daughters Denise Santos-Durham (Noreen), Jenny Richert (Karl), Karen Froelicher (John), her son Toby Santos (Erika), Son-in-law Al Lafferty, and her four grandchildren; A.J Lafferty, Jessica Froelicher, Jaymie Froelicher, and William Santos; as well as her sister Kathleen Martin (Richard), and brother Steven Blades (Suzanne). She is preceded in death by her parents William and Jeanette Blades, and brother Gary Blades.

 

A memorial mass will be held at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, 5444 Hollister Ave. on June 17th at 10 am, with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Raphael’s School – attention Athletics Program. 160 St. Joseph St., Santa Barbara, CA. 93111
