Well, we can all thank the Martin vs. Boise ruling. Classic example of when people who are esconsed from regular society makes laws that govern those living in regular society.

I mostly agree Rypert.
That case was decided on / about a complete absence of plausible alternatives for where the folks could be. Imho, we have nothing like an absence of plausible alternatives in our county/region that would result if we enforce laws in SB beaches and parks.
I do 100% agree that the Boise case is having strong impact. Mostly because a culture of cowardice / full risk-avoidance by local govt bureaucrats and hot potato with a super-tough issue for politicians. Our city would win a case if challenged…. well, maybe not, as our city attorney seems to be unable to out-argue a mayonnaise jar, but in theory not a tough sell on the plausible alternatives landscape.
Also, you are right in that the well-meaning but devastatingly destructive efforts of many “homeless rights” advocates are/were emboldened by that decision.
If some vagrant screamed at my kid at the skate park, I would not call the cops- When did men turn into ————-?
Let me venture to guess… another “houseless neighbor” gone wild? Asking for a community under siege from “houseless neighbors” and their antics.
Our city has turned into a trash dump. Have you looked at the places by the DMV next to the highway or along the railroad tracks or the offramp to Garden Street lately? Trash everywhere. Disgraceful. Or how about the tents in Almeda Park? We the taxpayers of the City of Santa Barbara are paying for all of these people to live like this and to keep rescuing these people from their own destructive ways (setting fires, drug overdoses etc). When do we say enough is enough already.
