The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office has been busy monitoring the annual “Deltopia” event in Isla Vista, reporting numerous citations, arrests, and medical emergencies. The unsanctioned street party, a well-known gathering that draws college-aged students, started on Friday and enforcement efforts quickly intensified on Saturday.
Friday’s festivities, initially expected to be relatively subdued, concluded with 10 citations issued by law enforcement and one individual arrested on charges of public intoxication and obstruction, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office reported.
As crowds began to swell on Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office implemented road closures starting at 9:00 a.m. from Trigo Road towards the ocean to manage the event. In an effort to control the influx of attendees, traffic in the affected areas was restricted to exit only.
Saturday’s law enforcement activity escalated with two arrests at 9:20 a.m. The individuals faced charges of obstruction and contributing alcohol to a minor.

By 10:54 a.m., another arrest had been made when a suspect enroute to Deltopia was found in possession of a loaded firearm.
The event’s toll on public safety became evident with reports of 19 patients requiring medical treatment for various emergencies before noon on Saturday. By 3:30 p.m., over 60 arrests had been made for a slew of infractions, including public drunkenness, obstruction, violations of the festival ordinance, and a weapons violation.
The Sheriff’s Office intends to maintain a strong presence throughout the remainder of Deltopia and will continue to provide updates as the weekend progresses. [Update: the final report on Deltopia 2025 has been released here.]

Deltopia, which takes place along Del Playa Drive during the first weekend following the start of UC Santa Barbara’s spring quarter, has historically been a challenge for local law enforcement due to excessive partying and the large gatherings it typically entails.
Residents and visitors are advised to remain mindful of the intensified law enforcement efforts and to prioritize safety during the weekend’s ongoing events.

Flail. This is why Deltopia is a problem for locals, regular UCSB kids who know better, first responders, hospitals, and law enforcement.
