Armed suspect making threats to self-harm was arrested outside Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital emergency room today.
This was an odd one and I only got bits and pieces of it. I hope SBPD will send out a formal press release with more details soon.
Happened around 2pm (Weds) with a massive police response blocking streets near the ER and SWAT teams with guns drawn. Offices and homes nearby were placed on lockdown.
Unclear how long this happened but the suspect was detained without incident.
Heard it was a BB gun and he was threatening to shoot himself. Clearly a cry for help.
We need better mental health services in this country.
