What recommendations do Edhatters have for preparation?
Appreciate your concern, but I need a break. It’s been a tough year — with family and local disasters, and what’s happening nationally, as well. I don’t want to think about fire today.
The bigger risk at this point is more floods for Montecito this winter and of course Earth Quakes for all of us. Lots of water, propane, canned food and camping gear. You need to be completely self sufficient for a week since most utilities will be broken and the stores will be out of food and gasoline very quickly.

Thanks for voting me down and out, guys—–but AGAIN: I can never seem to access Edhat when there’s any kind of fire, earthquake, flood, wind event (or microburst, ha) event. It’s an exercise in frustration and Noozhawk always seems to have the more pertinent details right at the moment. Roger does a great job, but what good is all his great effort and reporting efforts of readers if the Edhat site is down?
Edhat users seem to use the voting buttons to punish unpopular opinions which his how echo chambers get created and we end up in our current political climate. Voting down a comment should only occur when it violates the commenting guidelines, not when it is unpopular. I will reiterate what was said as well, edhat is not a reliable source of information in a disaster as it once was…even the new design is usually offline when we need it most. In the vacuum, KEYT has really stepped up their coverage along with other online sources like Indy and Noozhawk.
