Architectural Board of Review: Special Recruitment

The City of Santa Barbara is seeking individuals to serve on the Architectural Board of Review.  The Board is a local group of volunteers that insures that high standards of design are maintained in development and construction in the City of Santa Barbara.  The Board also protects and preserves, as nearly as practicable, the natural charm and beauty of Santa Barbara, including the historical style, qualities, characteristics of the buildings, structures and architectural features associated with and established by its long, illustrious and distinguished past.

There are currently 3 vacancies on the Board. Individuals who are licensed architects, or possess professional qualifications in related fields, are strongly encouraged to apply. For professional qualifications, one must have experience in, but not limited to, landscape architecture, building design, structural engineering or industrial design.

If you’re interested in serving on the Architectural Board of Review, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (805) 564-5309.  Additional information, including membership qualifications, compensation information, and the on-line application, may be obtained via the City’s website at: www.SantaBarbaraCa.gov (Boards and Commissions page).  Deadline for submitting applications related to these vacancies is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019.  The City Council will conduct interviews of applicants for the vacancies on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, during the City Council Meeting.

  1. Why add this cost to projects? Sacramento dictators have already passed mandates for one size fits all.. all students housing by UCSB & SBCC exempt from review and property tax as per law. ADUs are exempt. Now Newsom says can add 2 ADUs per residential property. Why penalize by adding review costs and delays for other projects from only private citizens? End the unnecessary! We voted Newsom for anarchy.
