Has anyone else recently lost their home owner’s insurance in Goleta? Travelers just cancelled our insurance after 15 years of coverage.
We live on Cathedral Oaks and based on the updated fire maps, we’re in a low risk zone. There was no indication of why it was cancelled, but several other neighbors received similar letters.
Is anyone else experiencing this? And are there insurance companies that are reliable?
HELPFUL COMMENT ALERT: I feel for people losing their coverage. We have been fortunate not to lose ours (yet), but we are in a lower fire risk area in Noleta and have Costco’s Connect insurance. It did increase substantially a couple years ago. Good luck in your search, that’s not fun.
Great recommendation, thank you.
We didn’t lose ours, but it went up 120%…! Neighbors went up $22k a year- They are leaving the State IF the can find a buyer who will not only qualify for a mortgage, but also find Homeowners insurance coverage and still be able to qualify for a mortgage….
sorry to hear this. Get ready for some sticker shock when you find a company that still does business in CA.
Allstate is still covering homes in high risk areas. I just renewed my policy without much of an increase.
There’s high risk and very high risk. The foothill/cathedral oaks corridor and mountainside aren’t getting Allstate. FYI, Allstate is really crappy if/when you need to make a claim. I know from experience. Be prepared to document and fight them.
BASIC – “There’s high risk and very high risk. The foothill/cathedral oaks corridor and mountainside aren’t getting Allstate”
Bull. I am in a red zone (very high risk) and have it, as do plenty of neighbors. And what insurance company ISN’T a pain to deal with? I’ve had them for years and aside from lagging on small claims, I’ve never had a problem.
You don’t have to make stuff up and disagree with everything all the time always every day. Give yourself a break.
I heard travelers was one of the last ones that still provided insurance in town for anyone near or in the fire zone. I’d call a local broker and see what they can do, but it’ll likely me a lot more expensive. Anywhere on Cathedral Oaks is considered a risk now.
Oh yeah. It’s rampant in our neighborhood. The CA FAIR plan and a “wrap” policy are likely in your future. It’s not good, but you gotta have something if you have a mortgage. The CA legislature and insurance commissioner Lara have been trying to put something together but have failed thus far. It’s a mess. Insurance companies are close to a scam – they set their own rules based on risk-reward, and therefore can’t lose.
Awwww, what, you want big government to come in and solve your problems? This is Capitalism kid, you don’t like it maybe relocate Sweden.
It’s hilarious watching MAGAts cry about “socialism” and then demand they have some socialism when they’re in need. The hypocrisy is truly astounding in everything they stand for and whine about.
Not whining at all. Just commenting on the topic based on experience, as opposed to chiming in to try and flame up some off-topic bs. Lots of folks are having problems insuring their homes, and for many of them their home is their biggest investment. I’m not a magat btw, whatever the F that is. Silly political bs I suppose.
You very much are. Everything you stand for here gives you up for what you are.
Uh-huh, so you do in fact want big daddy gummint to come in and solve your problems. But no one else’s.
If you won’t risk your money because of fire, why should an insurance company?
RUBY – because that’s literally what people pay insurance companies for.
Good for you then. You better consider yourself lucky and be ready to get cancelled next time around. That’s where it’s heading for your insurance if what you say is actually true.
Unlike you, I don’t lie about anything here. So yeah, it’s “actually true.”
Newsum will fix it
A fantasy inhabitant of your febrile imagination?
This is another example of why unchecked capitalism is a bad idea.
My house borders Kellogg School. My first salvo came in the form of prove that your neighbor’s trees are not yours. We did that. A month later, they wanted us to remove a healthy lemon tree, and remove the ivy on the fence bordering the school playground. I asked how that fence would catch fire, no response.
Funny thing is the neighbor’s house is covered by trees, and he’s not heard from his insurance at all.
We got AAA for less money, actually, so it worked out
