By “Not Another Bomb,” Santa Barbara
Over 60 community members gathered for a rally in front of City Hall to join a larger national movement in demanding that Vice President Kamala Harris call for an arms embargo on the Israeli government.
Among the participants was a woman who had driven down from Bakersfield. Before learning about the action in Santa Barbara, she had been planning to travel north to the Bay Area, determined to take part in the national day of action, “Not Another Bomb.” Her commitment to take action was driven by her personal experience of witnessing the Israeli government’s occupation and militarization while living in Bethlehem during the 1990s. Leaders from Jewish Voice for Peace and the Central Coast Antiwar Coalition were also in attendance and energized the crowd with profound speeches before kicking off the march down State Street. Several onlookers joined the procession as the crowd marched through Lower State, toward the wharf.
“Democratic are voters fed up with hearing empty promises about ending the genocide,” says Reeves Erickson. “The party platform needs to take meaningful action by placing an arms embargo on Israel that saves lives now. A ceasefire is what the majority of democrats and the majority of Americans want.”
For 10 months, people across the globe have witnessed atrocities in Gaza primarily sponsored by US-backed weapons to the Israeli government. VP Harris herself has noted that the events occurring in Gaza are “horrific.” Together, we urge VP Harris to listen to the Uncommitted National Movement and join a global community opposed to the Israeli government’s war crimes against humanity. We’re looking for real solutions to stop the bombs dropping on Palestinians.
Over 50 years ago, Santa Barbara helped plant the roots of the modern environmental movement following a massive oil spill off its coast. Community members came together to raise their voice against the death and destruction that they were witnessing before their eyes. On Sunday, community members stood in solidarity, once again, to demand an end to death and destruction.

Good. Hamas will never be fully removed. It’s time to stop the bombs and figure something else out. Palestinians deserve autonomy and recognizing a legitimate governing body will only push Hamas further into the shadows where they belong. Time to give them their freedom and in doing so, keep Israel safer. This is not, has not been the way to do it.
Doing things like the IDF forcing known innocent Gazans to enter suspected booby trapped buildings will not help. Bombing sheltering civilians will not help. Refusing to stop until “Hamas is destroyed” will not help. It’s time to stop and think.
Hamas has got to go, but continuing the status quo will only put Israel in further danger.
This is, with all respect, such an ignorant comment. This mentality is what got Hamas here in the first place. The international community has failed democracy entirely when it comes to the Middle East. You obviously have zero idea how this plays out. Israel pulls out with Hamas still intact, International community props some bullshit admin force to govern Gaza, within 2 years Hamas slaughters this govt like it did to Fatah, starts using international funding and rebuilding tunnels and smuggling weapons into Gaza. Until the Palestinian people’s educational system is changed so they aren’t taught to kill all Jews from birth (something the Israelis aren’t taught), there will never be peace. October 7 was a perfect example of how animalistic these people (Hamas) are, with 80% support from all Gazans. I fully support Netanyahu’s efforts to destroy all terror tunnels and remove all military capabilities from Gaza before pulling out and not pulling out due to ridiculously ill informed hippies like this bunch protesting on State St
Sounds like the right idea, at least a step. Biden has a lot of blood on his hands, the blood of civilians – men, women, and children. Non-fighters. Non-terrorists. Shameful. Netanyahu? Don’t even get me started. War criminal.
Can’t figure out how one can justify supplying the weapons that are killing so many innocent civilians. Big black eye on America right here.
You’re obviously very misinformed, likely because you follow BBC, ABC, Al Jazeera or some other incredibly biased news agency. Israel succeeded at minimizing civilian casualties to a 1-1 ratio which is unheard of in modern warfare (the us was a whopping 8-1 when it came to Afghanistan!). Biden doesn’t have a black eye, Netanyahu doesn’t either, they both deserve awards for showing strength against a radicalized Islamic terror group which forces its civilians to act as human shields and hides underground while shooting its civilians should they attempt to flee or surrender. Your comment proves to me that you’ve never been to Israel or Palestine and are unfortunately one of the many who gobble up leftist media for breakfast lunch and dinner without pausing to learn the history out there or think critically about the very real threats Israel faces if these radical Islamic groups aren’t pushed back against!
CALIB – a “1-1” ratio? I call BS. You have a (reliable) source?
Does that include the innocent Gazans being forced to set off booby traps?
It’s probably more like 2:1 civilians to military targets.
Here’s an article which is highly critical of Israel written by an ex-military special operations targeting specialist. Considering that he spends most of the article taking Israel to task for violating legal requirements on reducing civilian harm in combat operations it seems that his assessment of the ratio is probably reasonable.

The best analogy in modern warfare is probably the battles for Mosul and Raqqa, if you’e interested.
