Anthem Dropping ACA Plans for 2018
By an edhat subscriber
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield announced it will be dropping Affordable Care Act (Covered California) plans in the tri-county area for 2018.
I received an email stating my individual health insurance plan will be canceled as soon as 2018 starts because "uncertainty in the health insurance market does not provide the clarity and confidence we need to offer affordable coverage to our members in 2018."
Do edhatters know if Blue Shield will still be available or what other healthcare plans will be offered under Covered California for 2018? And what will local providers and hospitals accept?
More information is available here.

Aug 02, 2017 12:12 PMBlueshield will be the only carrier available for individual plans in Santa Barbara. Blueshield Individual plans are not contracted with Sansum Clinic. Thus, no individual health insurance will be able to utilize or see doctors at Sansum.

Aug 02, 2017 12:19 PM"Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into..." Oliver Hardy
Blame BOTH sides! Dems had no idea what they were creating back in 2010 ("We have to pass it to find out what's in it." Pelosi)
Now, Repubs have no idea how to fix it properly.
Another insurer dropping coverage. The chickens are coming home to roost faster than corn through a goose.
All agree the ACA needs fixing. Now DO IT!! ALL of you!
We, the People, deserve better.

Aug 02, 2017 12:51 PMThere are a number of bi-partisan committees in congress with plans to improve the ACA. Too bad the right can't bare to be attached anything with the Obama name and the left keeps living in a single payer fantasy world. No one ever said the ACA was perfect, but it got millions of people into the healthcare market. Now put some stability in market and quit the partisan BS.

Aug 02, 2017 06:15 PMSingle payer would never work in this country as the republicans wold dedicate themselves to its destruction. As they are trying now to destroy any environmental, public safety, or social justice laws they can. Sometimes they do it out of twisted principle, sometimes to lower taxes on the rich, and more and more they do it simply to upset the liberals.

Aug 03, 2017 09:41 AMNews said last night that Sansum will negotiate with the carriers that are left and hopefully will reach an agreement to use their services. Otherwise, how many doctors are there in SB that aren't affiliated with Sansum? Not many.
