Anonymous Gun Buyback on Saturday

Source: Santa Barbara Police Department

The Santa Barbara Police Department is partnering with the Coalition Against Gun Violence to remove unwanted guns from our community with the aim to reduce the risk of homicide, suicide and deadly accidents, often involving children.

The Anonymous Gun Buyback event will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Earl Warren Showgrounds, 3400 Calle Real, Santa Barbara.

While supplies last, $100.00 Smart & Final gift cards will be given to people turning in working handguns, shotguns, and rifles.  $200.00 Smart & Final gift cards will be given to people turning in functioning California classified assault weapons.  The effort has been funded by a generous donation from both the City of Santa Barbara and local congressional representative, Salud Carbajal.

After all firearms have been collected for the day, each serial number will be evaluated to ensure it has not been reported as stolen.  The weapons will ultimately be destroyed then recycled.

Ammunition for handguns, shotguns, and rifles will also be collected at the Gun Buyback, however gift cards will not be provided in exchange for this.

Additionally, free gun locks will also be given away to anyone wanting one, while supplies last.  Firearms mustbe transported to the Gun Buyback unloaded and in the trunk of a vehicle.

Under no circumstances should explosives or military ordnance such as hand grenades or artillery shells be brought to this event.
