Due to the effects of the Thomas Fire, the 1-9 Debris Flow, and the continued threat debris flows pose to our community, the neighborhood chipping program has been cancelled for this year.

The Montecito Fire Department remains focused on community recovery and anticipates re-establishing the Annual Neighborhood Chipping Program in 2019.

Annual Neighborhood Chipping Program Cancelled for 2018

This only pertains to Montecito! The other areas where chipping is normally done will be done. They are starting this week. If you are in the Wildlands Fire Assessment District but not in the fire area, they will attach a notice to your mailbox giving the specific date for your neighborhood.

This is for backyard burning permit holders, manly mountain and/or rural areas where we burn our cut vegetation. The county fire department comes around with a wood chipper to turn dry, cut vegetation into wood chips to reduce air quality concerns from burning.

Annual Neighborhood Chipping Program Cancelled for 2018

Nothing to do with backyard burning! This is a service neighborhoods in fire-prone areas get each year, paid for through an assessment that comes on our property tax bills (that we voted for). Only Montecito left out this year, which is a shame as there are many areas where it's needed and the chipper and truck could maneuver easily.
