Animal Services Hosts Open Houses at All Three Shelters

Santa Barbara County is hosting a series of open houses to celebrate enhancements in operations, engage the public in contributing to our important work with animals, and announce the formation of a new Animal Services Advisory Committee.

According to Jan Glick, Director of Animal Services, a collaborative effort with local agencies and stakeholders over the past two years has resulted in new procedures and strategies that have benefited the community, “We’ve enhanced veterinary care for the shelter animals, updated our adoption approach, and expanded animal enrichment and volunteer opportunities. We are excited to keep this momentum going with the new Animal Services Advisory Committee.”

Residents can support animal programs and services in a variety of days. One way to contribute is by participating on the Animal Services Advisory Committee. The Animal Services Advisory Committee will be comprised of local animal rescue organizations and community members interested in offering strategic advice for operating the County’s animal control program and three community animal shelters. Those interested in serving on the Committee can visit one of three upcoming Open House events in August or email Glick at Jan.Glick@sbcphd.org.

Open House dates for Santa Barbara County Animal Services are:

  • Santa Maria Animal Center, 548 W. Foster Rd. Santa Maria, CA 93455 on Tuesday, August 15th from 5-7PM
  • Santa Barbara Shelter, 5473 Overpass Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 93111 on Wednesday, August 16th from 5-7PM
