The first "Wet Wednesday." The original black & white came from SB historical museum glass plate photo collection, see it here. I did the colorizing with photoshop.

THE POTTER HOTEL was built in 1903 by Milo M. Potter at a cost of $1.5 million. The hotel accommodated six hundred guests. Potter sold it in 1918 and the hotel burned to the ground in 1921.

A building of that scale has not been constructed in Santa Barbara since 1903, and likely never will be again.

That photo, which is very, very cool, reminds me of the Newport cigarette TV commercials as far back as 1959 when I was 3 years old. (Sure wish SB was still like that.)

I don't know which I like more, the original B&W or your colorized version. Both are striking! Thanks for sharing.

1.5m to build this hotel equates to about 50.5m in todays money. Great article from edhat back in Jan 2021 tells you all about the Potter hotel history...... https://www.edhat.com/news/santa-barbara-s-grand-hotel-the-potter
