Amber Alert Canceled, Father Reportedly Shot by Officer

Konstantin Morozov, the father and murder suspect from Santa Maria who abducted his 9-year-old son prompting an Amber Alert, has died, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a tip from the FBI of Morozov’s possible whereabouts. Together they tracked him, and his son, to a condominium complex near Lindley Avenue and Killion Street, near the border of Encino and Tarzana, reports the LA Times.

He was under surveillance for a period of time before he exited the building with the boy around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday when law enforcement came in contact with him. Official reports have not yet stated what transpired during these events, but it’s confirmed that Morozov was shot by an officer. The boy was not harmed and is now in protective custody.

The Amber Alert was canceled shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Morozov was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. No officers were injured, reports the LA Times.

California Highway Patrol officially canceled the Amber Alert for the 9-year-old Santa Maria boy, Daniel Morozov, at 8:18 p.m. on Tuesday.

ABC7 reports an officer-involved shooting took place Tarzana around 7 p.m. that’s linked to the case, but this has not yet been confirmed. The shooting reportedly involved a murder suspect who was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital in an unknown condition. No officers were injured.

The 2017 Jeep Cherokee that Konstantin Morozov was believed to have been traveling in was located earlier this date in the City of Santa Barbara. There is no new information on Morozov’s whereabouts or any new vehicle he might be associated with.

Instructions: If Morozov is located do not approach and call 911 immediately.

On August 21, 2017, SMPD officers were dispatched to a shooting at 230 N College Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased victim of a shooting. As a result of the investigation SMPD asked for an AMBER Alert.

SMPD is searching for Daniel Morozov, white, male 9 years of age, 4ft 5in, 90 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes.

Likely in the company of Konstantin Morozov, white male, 48 years of age, 6ft, 180 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes.

The last known vehicle was a 2015 blue Volkswagen Golf hatchback, license plate 7JGG242. Special attention to international airports and border crossings. 

Instructions: If you see these individuals or the vehicle do not approach, immediately contact 911.
