On April 19, 2018, Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) concluded an investigation into an alleged heroin dealer operating out of Montecito. SIB Detectives with the assistance of the Compliance Response Team (CRT), a Sheriff’s K-9 team and Tulare Police Officers, executed search warrants in the 800 block of Picacho Lane in Montecito as well as the 300 block of North West Street in Tulare.

During the warrant service in Montecito, 54-year-old Pedro Barajas, a construction foreman who was living on the property in a trailer, was detained. Detectives utilized K-9 Aco to conduct a search of Barajas’ trailer. During the search, K-9 Aco alerted in two locations inside the trailer. SIB Detectives then conducted a physical search of the trailer. During the search, SIB Detectives located a loaded Glock 9mm handgun, including two additional loaded magazines, approximately 1.1 lbs. of heroin packaged for sale and more than $10, 000 in cash. Good dog, did his job well. Seems there’s a lot of drug dealers in Montecito, glad another one is gone. Speaking of fronts, I live in Summerland and would bet that rug place is a front, never any one there buying rugs, but still in business, next to the once cafe Luna.

None. But the idea is to enforce the existing laws. This is a felon in possesion of a firearm and ammunition. Those are the people that they need to put away for a long time. It's been shown repeatedly that crime is drastically reduced when the crimminals are in prison.

Bet the property owners are shocked, as well as the construction company owners. Guy must have thought he was safe in Montecito. In the 1980s there were a lot of cocaine dealers there, not workers but the ones living the high style.

Remember Tiffary, the panty store on Coast Village road? When we remodeled it we thought,"gee you got to sell a lot of panties to pay for this store." We thought it must be a vanity business. Years later I was told that it was a front for coke sales. Montecito had snow drifts of coke back then.

He actually may have been a competent foreman. I worked with a door & window contractor decades ago who did excellent work and only found out years later that he was a heroin addict. I am not supporting heroin use in any way by this comment, and am glad this guy is out of biz.
