Air Rescues Continue in Montecito

Numerous air rescues were performed on Tuesday for victims of the mudslides in the Montecito area.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders dispatched two helicopter crews from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu and a crew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego to assist Santa Barbara County and local first responder agencies with rescue efforts for the mudslides in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Summerland, and Carpinteria.

At approximately 6:15 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu medevaced two burn victims from a reported home explosion who were later transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

At approximately 9:56 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew conducted a rooftop rescue, saving two people and a dog in Carpinteria.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., the Jayhawk crew was notified of a family needing assistance in Carpentaria, Calif. The crew arrived on scene and lowered both rescue swimmers to evaluate the situation. In all, five family members were rescued, including the mother, father, their newborn, seven-year-old son, three-year-old daughter and two dogs. The family was transported to a staging area with Santa Barbara County emergency crews.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., the crew of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter medevaced two adults with reported broken limbs to EMS at Santa Barbara Airport.

A second Jayhawk helicopter crew was dispatched to assist, and upon arriving to the area, both Jayhawk crews began to assist the California National Guard in evacuating a shelter beset by the storm.

At approximately 4:27 p.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced a dialysis patient from a country club golf course in Montecito, and transported the patient and spouse to EMS at Santa Barbara Airport. 

At approximately 4:30 p.m., an MH-60 Jayhawk crews evacuated 21 people from a country club golf course in Santa Barbara County. 

Combined, both Jayhawk crews rescued more than 20 evacuees and pets from the shelter to a new site. In total, the Coast Guard assisted local authorities in saving or assisting 38 lives, and assisting 15 pets during Tuesday's rescue efforts.

The Ventura County Air Unit also assisted with air rescues throughout Tuesday. The below video shows Air Squad 6 assisting with rescues in the Carpinteria flood area.

A victim who was swept away in their vehicle was located by the crew of Ventura County Air Unit Air Squad 6. The victim was hoisted and flown to awaiting ground personnel.

Officials encourage the public to shelter-in-place or go to higher ground, and definitely stay off the roads. Avoid downed power lines and trees, and do not drive across flowing water or mud.

Air Rescues Continue in Montecito

While awaiting takeoff clearance we got a pic of four of those helicopters staging at SBA this evening, and I've posted it on SBitZ.NET along with some aerials and other pix.
