Aga John's Closes for Good

By an edhat reader
Aga John Rugs, they've had a "store closing/going out of business" sign up for years.
Looks like they mean it this time.

Jan 27, 2023 02:54 PMi moved to n. hope july 2016 from encinitas(s.d. n. county) and that sign was up. most progressive towns/states have ordinances disallowing "going-out-of-biz" signs after so many weeks or maybe months. s.b. is not one of those. plus his sign was not the customary paper type in the window. it was permanent, solid material. never should have been permitted, shame on s.b.

Jan 27, 2023 02:00 PMPre-recession, that building had been approved for a fairly nice looking building. It is now approved for more ugly overdevelopment. This part of town has 'NO ALTERNATE ACCESS STREETS !.... Right NOW , any street work, accidents, Chik-fil-A spill over etc and it becomes a bottleneck of honking horns, air pollution etc. There is a bad sewer smell that regularly fills the air at the Hitchcock& State area. Your city is now in the process of developing La Cumbre Plaza (both Sears and Macy's ends) into multi-story residential units. This will put many more HUNDREDS of cars in this already too congested area :-(

Jan 27, 2023 03:44 PMHUH? No alternate access? Only if you don't know the area. Plenty of side streets to get around.

Jan 27, 2023 12:33 PMRUBAIYAT - what did you "see?" A business with not many customers? Honestly, how bustling of a showroom to you expect for a specialty rug store? It's not like people are constantly out shopping for fancy rugs. Or, did you just "see" some Middle Eastern-looking men working in a store and "say" they're terrorists? Do you "say something" every time you see a white, conservative Christian male? You know they're far more deadly.

Jan 27, 2023 08:43 AMAga John Rugs had another, larger, store in the LA area. Perhaps they still do. They definitely sold rugs as I have bought several from them over the years. Several years ago a condominium project was approved for that site by the Planning Commission. I don't know if that entitlement is still active however.

Jan 27, 2023 08:15 AMThey might reopen somewhere else. When I lived in NYC, that’s what I observed with the various rug merchants. Always “Closing” etc. but popping up in new locations. I wish them well whatever their story.
