Evite áreas quemadas por incendios, áreas bajas, áreas con agua estancada y áreas cercanas a ríos o arroyos. De la vuelta, no te ahogue cuando te encuentres con caminos inundados. Ventura County Star @vcstar · 54m ago. The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down last night near the Santa Clara River and hop-scotched across Ventura Harbor, toppling trees, ripping awnings and scattering strawberries from local fields along its path. https://bit.ly/2MygBtT

I'm starting to think that people who complain about this latest, or any other, rain/storm, that it's too much or whatever, might have some mental illness problems. We needed this so much and I hope more is to come. Much more. As for the negativity and darkness, it's not healthy and is a real downer for the rest of us who are enjoying this tremendously.

I hear you, I empathize, but please don't pass it off as "mental illness problems." Millions, billions of people in the world pretty much suck when it comes to kindness to others. Please let's not join them. Mental illness sure doesn't need any MORE stigmatization! Thank you all, truly.

Have some empathy for those who had Christmas evening disrupted by the tornado warning. No basements in this area so they had to think about what they would for shelter in the event the warning turned into a touchdown in their neighborhood. For 95% of us, it was a wonderful display of nature bringing much needed moisture to our area.

I wonder what people from County Flood Control were thinking during the tornado warning? It's one thing to think about heavy rain creating debris flows, but rotating winds picking up bolders, rocks, trees, and slamming them to the ground down OR UP the mountain?

Hopefully, this is almost over.. I grew up with this... The wind, or lack of wind, doesn't mean much. In fact, the quiet, was creeping me out... We used to open windows...to release pressure...in case we got hit.. If this happens again...hope not..get into a bathtub...with a mattress.. Funny, but weather channel, KTLA, keep telling us to go to the basement..don't have one ..

I was driving down DLV around 7:45 or so and thought I saw a flash of lightning. I listened for the thunder and hearing none, figured I imagined it. I didn't see any other flashes, but I wonder now if that was actually lightning and the beginning of the rotation? Weird and wild storm, so thankful for this rain ! Keep it coming!

@805Weather · 31m ago. Incredibly well-defined rotation occurring due south of Montecito currently. There have been a lot of rotating cells tonight, but this is something eye-brow raising. #CAwx

TwoScoops, thanks for the updates. I’m not surprised that downtown is a mess with the rainfall rates this evening. I keep checking the camera on the San Antonio debris basin while watching episodes of original Star Trek with my family on Netflix.

Just received an emergency broadcast for flash flood warnings in the area. I live at the top of a canyon that has a seasonal creek running below. I can hear very, very heavy water flow due to getting so much rain in such a short period of time. Sounds more like a river right now.

I don't hear anything like rolling rocks, but I always worry when we get heavy rain like this. The lot goes down a pretty steep hill on the east side and crosses the creek bed. I have climbed down there before, and in one place there is a pretty steep vertical channel that the creek has carved from the hillside. Probably about 20 to 25 feet from the crest of the hill straight down, with a lot of large rocks and aggregate exposed and sticking out from the side of the channel. It seems to have held together for a long time, but that in particular was a weird thing to see.

Eucalyptus Hill area. Not sure about the name of the creek, but I think it drains down the canyon and eventually into the bird sanctuary. It really starts to flow heavily when there is a fair amount of rain. And it's gushing right now.
