The rumors were true, ACE Hardware is taking over the former Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) location off Fairview in Goleta.

In November, edhat readers discussed the rumor asking if an ACE Hardware was on its way. Turned out they were right! Signs are now up at 125 N. Fairview in the Fairview Shopping Center.

Miner's ACE Hardware plans to open this summer as part of Ace Hardware's buying co-op owned entirely by independent dealers. Miner's started in Grover Beach in 1956 by brothers Lee and Glenn as a family business. They hired their first employee, Wally Lewis, who still works at the Grover Beach location.

In 1964, Glenn purchased his brother's share of the business and in 1972 they joined ACE Hardware. Lee's oldest son, Mike Miner, was named CEO of the business in 1982.

Goleta will be Miner's Ace Hardware's ninth location as they currently have stores in Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Grover Beach, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Nipomo, Santa Paula, and San Luis Obispo.

Sorry to contradict you Miner's Hardware. I personally know the ownership of the Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center. As mentioned before, ACE's CEO flew out from their Headquarters in Oakbrook, Illinois back in May of 2017 to bestow the honor of their becoming ACE's Largest Volume purchasing Store after year-end 2016 among all 5,000 ACE stores nationwide. Therefore, they are ACE's number 1 store regardless of which way you care to dissect that fact. Previously they held ACE's number 2 position for a great number of years, but they're now #1 for the last three years and counting.

#1 since 5/'17...sorry for not mentioning that important landmark date for the HIC

#1 because ACE's CEO flew out from Chicago to bestow that honor onto the Store and they've been their top volume purchasing store since. Before that they were #2 for a number of years...

GSURFDOG Thank you again for taking your time to add comments to this feed. I apologize you have gotten some bad information and know that this award bestowed on Ace Retailers is not based on sales and there is a long list of award winning stores that would agree.

I see a few comments here that the Home Improvement Center is "the #1 Ace Hardware in the country." What exactly does that mean? #1 in what? I shop there all the time, but don't understand where this #1 puffery is coming from.

Tagdes: JD Power is the essence of puffery. They have sold the companies a bill of goods that the companies then use to confuse consumers. Really, how would a national company know about local satisfcation with a hardware store????

Also No 1 in customer satisfaction for the last eleven years in a row by J D Powers and 2018 No 1 for customer experience by Temkin. I'd have to lean towards these as facts rather than puffery.

I know that Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center pulled all their glyphosate product on 5/14 the morning following the landmark 2 billion judgement against Monsanto here in CA. HIC had already brought in some 30 'safe' herbicide alternatives many OMRI rated. Glyphosate is only available there until sold out and upon request from back shelves or special order upon request so sales staff can fully instruct on its cautious /discreet use and guidance on personal safety including pesticide/herbicide rated twin cup respirator use, gloves, protective eye wear, etc. Apparently personnel from the store also called ACE corporate to advise of its pulled product and to tell them they will no longer participate in future circular ads from ACE in the promotion of Roundup. Be sure to try out any of their many alternatives, some even touted as being "root kill" as well. While Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center is recognized as ACE's #1 store, we know that it is not affiliated with the new store's opening at the OSH location and will most certainly continue to offer its ever-so-helpful customer service, wide selection and fair pricing while continuing on into their 52nd year serving all of Santa Barbara's home and property needs.

Now . . . If Ace Hardware would stop selling pesticides and flowering plants loaded with neonicotinoids . . . that would be splendid.

Home Depot website says they are phasing out the use of neonics and if they are used on the plants they are clearly marked. So it sounds like they are trying to do the right thing, hopefully they are sticking to it.

What ever happened to the Dollar General next to sprouts? John Palminteri announced it on Facebook in March. I’ve heard Miners Ace has popcorn while your shop!!

Many good reasons to be happy about a Miners Ace at that location. It's much bigger, more parking, it has pull up loading out back, Miners has better fastener/plumbing fittings (at least in AG/Grover Beach),...

I'm happy I'll no longer have to wander aimlessly around Home Depot with no assistance from any of the few staff that are working there.

Jeannine's is opening soon in Goleta. Recently tried the new Indian Restaurant Masala Spice buffet at lunch, and LOVED it! The big Target is coming along. ACE Hardware, can't wait! Does anyone know what's going in on Calle Real (old Dennys?) in Goleta, next to Outpost? It's being remodeled.

Another big win for Goleta. The SB approach: Pop-Up shops where you can purchase trinkets, t-shirts ("I <heart> Goleta"), and other future donations to Goodwill. 50 or more empty storefronts in dt SB. I think The Lagoon District is doing better due to alcohol.

Not Lagoon District...but Laguna District or as we're seeing in the upcoming Nightout event on 6/15 AKA the Haley Corridor. Definitely not Lagoon with images of stagnant and fetid water. Laguna Street was home to Dodgers spring training in 50's and 60's...Laguna Park. Name chosen by all long standing existing businesses in the immediate area

There is no such thing as the "lagoon district." That's a stupid marketing ploy to make a silk purse out of a show's ear. Don't be pulled by developers hype.

What planet are you from . SB's Ace isn't going anywhere . It's the the number 1 in the country and this has nothing to do with empty storefronts in SB.

Channel City is a True Value Hardware store and the owners are local. So -- who cares that an Ace Hardware store from Grover Beach is coming to town. I will stay with Channel City and the great service they have provided me for 45 years.

" ACE downtown you have to fight off the helpful employees with a stick." I like this comment. Good service is what keeps me coming back for more. Kudos to the Home Improvement Center. There are a couple of good old folks who work at Home Depot, but I still hate going there. I liked the people at OSH and was sorry to see it close. Channel City used to be really good when the Silveria brothers were there. Eddie was the best. I haven't tried them for a while since Ed passed, but need to give them another chance.

I like Channel City, but have a pretty grumpy experience there more than half the time. ACE downtown you have to fight off the helpful employees with a stick. Hopefully this new ACE will be more of the latter and less of the former. Better prices also wouldn't hurt....hard to justify local ownership if the same part is half as much at Home Depot.
