The rumors were true, ACE Hardware is taking over the former Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) location off Fairview in Goleta.
In November, edhat readers discussed the rumor asking if an ACE Hardware was on its way. Turned out they were right! Signs are now up at 125 N. Fairview in the Fairview Shopping Center.
Miner’s ACE Hardware plans to open this summer as part of Ace Hardware’s buying co-op owned entirely by independent dealers. Miner’s started in Grover Beach in 1956 by brothers Lee and Glenn as a family business. They hired their first employee, Wally Lewis, who still works at the Grover Beach location.
In 1964, Glenn purchased his brother’s share of the business and in 1972 they joined ACE Hardware. Lee’s oldest son, Mike Miner, was named CEO of the business in 1982.
Goleta will be Miner’s Ace Hardware’s ninth location as they currently have stores in Arroyo Grande, Atascadero, Grover Beach, Los Osos, Morro Bay, Nipomo, Santa Paula, and San Luis Obispo.

Channel City is a True Value Hardware store and the owners are local. So — who cares that an Ace Hardware store from Grover Beach is coming to town. I will stay with Channel City and the great service they have provided me for 45 years.
I like Channel City, but have a pretty grumpy experience there more than half the time. ACE downtown you have to fight off the helpful employees with a stick. Hopefully this new ACE will be more of the latter and less of the former. Better prices also wouldn’t hurt….hard to justify local ownership if the same part is half as much at Home Depot.
I’m happy I’ll no longer have to wander aimlessly around Home Depot with no assistance from any of the few staff that are working there.
What planet are you from . SB’s Ace isn’t going anywhere . It’s the the number 1 in the country and this has nothing to do with empty storefronts in SB.

Now . . . If Ace Hardware would stop selling pesticides and flowering plants loaded with neonicotinoids . . . that would be splendid.
Tagdes: JD Power is the essence of puffery. They have sold the companies a bill of goods that the companies then use to confuse consumers. Really, how would a national company know about local satisfcation with a hardware store????

I know that Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center pulled all their glyphosate product on 5/14 the morning following the landmark 2 billion judgement against Monsanto here in CA. HIC had already brought in some 30 ‘safe’ herbicide alternatives many OMRI rated. Glyphosate is only available there until sold out and upon request from back shelves or special order upon request so sales staff can fully instruct on its cautious /discreet use and guidance on personal safety including pesticide/herbicide rated twin cup respirator use, gloves, protective eye wear, etc. Apparently personnel from the store also called ACE corporate to advise of its pulled product and to tell them they will no longer participate in future circular ads from ACE in the promotion of Roundup. Be sure to try out any of their many alternatives, some even touted as being “root kill” as well.
While Santa Barbara Home Improvement Center is recognized as ACE’s #1 store, we know that it is not affiliated with the new store’s opening at the OSH location and will most certainly continue to offer its ever-so-helpful customer service, wide selection and fair pricing while continuing on into their 52nd year serving all of Santa Barbara’s home and property needs.
I see a few comments here that the Home Improvement Center is “the #1 Ace Hardware in the country.” What exactly does that mean? #1 in what? I shop there all the time, but don’t understand where this #1 puffery is coming from.
#1 because ACE’s CEO flew out from Chicago to bestow that honor onto the Store and they’ve been their top volume purchasing store since. Before that they were #2 for a number of years…
#1 since 5/’17…sorry for not mentioning that important landmark date for the HIC
Also No 1 in customer satisfaction for the last eleven years in a row by J D Powers and 2018 No 1 for customer experience by Temkin. I’d have to lean towards these as facts rather than puffery.
