Above the Whittier Fire Burn Area
By John Wiley
We flew around the Whittier Fire burn area Thursday, and thought it would look worse. It's plenty bad enough, but there are many un-burned patches, especially in canyons where foliage will help in heavy rains. Looking South across the northeast end we could see how far they kept it from the gun club (top-left) at Bear Creek. Looking toward the East it stops higher on the South slope than we imagined. The edge at the southeast end burned right up to the power line, but spared Lizard's Mouth at the top-right.
