Santa Barbara Public Health Department reports 81 new COVID-19 cases to the county on Wednesday.
The total confirmed case count is now 2,590 with 992 cases belonging to the outbreak in the Federal Prison in Lompoc. Overall, 2,057 total individuals fully recovered and 27 have died.
Of the active 233 cases, 7 are located within the Lompoc prison, 176 are quarantined at home, 57 are recovering in the hospital with 20 in the intensive care unit, and 264 are pending information.

I wonder if the line at Trader Joe’s will become a super spreader.
All of these infographics contain data in direct conflict with the status reports with respect to number of cases recovering in the hospital. Today the graphics says 37 in hospital , but the status report has 57. Yesterday the graphic had 42, when the status report said 61.
At least the Trader Joe’s patrons are all wearing masks (at least as far as I have seen).

And still no real enforcement. It will soon be out of control and our healthcare system will be at the brink. The reopening has been an utter disaster. No real plans. No buy in on masks. Too damn fast.
18 new cases in SB city and 4 in Goleta since yesterday, mostly young people. That’s quite a jump. Maybe we opened the bars and restaurants too soon?

In the past 7 days the South Coast has averaged about 18 new cases per day. In the 7 days before that, the South Cast averaged about 5 new cases per day.

Current estimates (outside the CDC) is that the infectious mortality rate — number of deaths/total_infected — is about 0.66 percent.
That means that for every death now, 150 people were infected 3 weeks ago, so if you multiply 150 x 116,000 you get 17,400,000 were infected in the USA 3 weeks ago.
Deaths have increased 15% over the past 3 weeks, so that implies 115% x 17,400,000 = 20 million people infected or recovered currently. or about 6% of the USA currently has or has had COVID-19 so far…So where a mask if you can. Every time you exhale, you leave little water droplets in the air. If you’re an asymptotic carrier (and every COVID-19-infected person is an asymptotic carrier at least for a day or two ), you’ll be leaving contaminated droplets everywhere you go. Masks reduce the level of contamination FROM carriers by a huge percentage, even if they are only a couple of layers of cotton cloth.
This is thought to be why Japan has 1/33 the deaths-per-capital of the USA, despite being massively more densely populated.

So wearing a mask stops it? Also, just like every grocery store, once inside, there is no distancing and everyone touching everything. often after touching their nasty mask…
Not surprising after looking at the photos in the article documenting the protests. Lots of people in close proximity and making physical contact. Many without masks or not worn properly. Lots of people shouting or chanting releasing aerosols directly onto other people. Though many wore masks, none wore protective goggles to keep saliva particles out of their eyes. People undoubtedly made a lot of hand to face contact with without sanitizing them beforehand. The protests had all the ingredients to be spreader events based on those photos.
Yeah the anti mask protests were dangerous.
I just saw a local gym and the staff all dancing with no masks on with each other within Half a foot. I wonder why they thought gyms and bars could be safer than personal service industries that are taught how not to spread disease. I know most businesses are really trying and the gyms and bars are trying but there’s always someone that doesn’t care

WTF? My grandfather was a statistician for AT&T. He always said that you can make the numbers/statistics say anything you want them to.
Curious about the ‘Recovering at home’. I am now aware of two different hotels that are housing positive patients. Are you? They are still accepting guests, but not telling them. But I guess that’s to be expected… positive and recovering patients and inmates need somewhere to go….. I would just think there would be some protocol to let incoming guests know.
What is your source for this information? And why post if you’re not going to tell us which hotels?

BIGUGLY I asked these same questions, could not understand, until I recently read an article published in some psychological papers – one being PsyPost – about psychopathic/sociopathic traits linked to refusal to wear masks. Some of the common psychological markers of those who refuse include disagreeableness, lack of conscience, lack of responsibility among others. It doesn’t mean everyone who refuses to wear masks is that way but it was significant enough that the paper will be published. that’s why you don’t understand b/c you don’t have those anti social traits. Google it and read it, the light bulb will go off.
BIGUGLY also, while a significant number of Trump supporters rail against masks, there are also Trump supporters who believe in masking and distancing and are not happy with how he’s messaged this so you can’t say across the board it’s Trumpers – look at the protesters – they were not Trump supporters and many weren’t wearing masks or distancing. It’s a psychological issue that points to anti social personality issues.

DW2000 the study doesn’t say that at all. It makes NO reference to conservativism or liberalism. Psychopathic/sociopathy isn’t political it’s a personality disorder. stop trying to fool people – with fake quotes from this study which says nothing about “conservativism”. The protests for BLM were full of sociopaths and still are – not wearing masks.

I didn’t post the study I was referencing so I am not sure what study you are taking about. Just Google psychopathy and politics.

DW you are posting biased statements from biased people. The actual study made no reference to conservative beliefs being part of the psychopathy of not wearing a mask.
3:30 – Yea, but your WRONG. I didn’t say “all” I said “most.” Were you at the BLM protests here in town? Take a look at the media photos. Most were wearing masks. I have friends and family that were at both the anti-lockdown/mask protests and the BLM protests, the photos from both tell a very different tale than what you wish was true. Try again kiddo!

By reading various comments sections I have deduced two important facts: 1) We can all feel safe to mingle as long as people wear the thin cloth masks available to the public which are permeable to the tiny corona virus and almost never worn properly or washed. 2) Only Republican rallies can spread it. If you are a Democrat, you are beyond reproach if you chant and scream arm-in-arm and face to face. ) Hmmm. Seriously, masks should be worn, but we will not get the numbers down if we let masks give us a false sense of security, and if we focus on politics instead of coming together with a common goal of fighting this. Distance is better than a mask, for example. And good hygiene is key–with and without your mask. Maybe we could all try to cooperate just a little bit more and join the countries whose people have cooperated and gotten a handle on this virus. Vilifying those who won’t help the effort hasn’t worked–maybe positive reinforcement and incentive would be better.

Per the California COVID-19 Dashboard website, all the counties had increased rates of new daily cases after the protests in the first week of June: Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, SanDiego, San Bernardino, Alameda, Santa Clara, Fresno, San Joaquin, Contra Costa, Sacramento, Ventura, Stanislaus, Merced. Those counties either had flat case rates or slow rates of rise which then started to rise out of those baselines starting the week of June 8. Fortunately several of those counties are beginning to drop from the peaks. The protests don’t get a free pass when it comes to increased virus cases in the state.

All of the protests where people didn’t wear masks or were close together were dangerous.
Our healthcare system is doing fine so far! Hoping that stays the case. I know that I will continue to lay low and wear a mask when I go out to grocery shop though, don’t want to get it and spread it or get sick myself. Those of us that are concerned need to adhere to that until things improve.

Confirmed cases are basically triple of what they were in April, but daily deaths are still lower than they were then. This virus is either weakening in its lethality or for most healthy people under 70 it’s not a killer. I still don’t want to get it.

11:00, so are you saying don’t trust numbers at all? The analyses I am reading, given that only 5% of the population has been infected, seem accurate. I have not seen any story from a reputable organization, and confirmed by scientists, that the disease has mutated into something less lethal than it was in March.
This is going to be with us for a long time. Even when a vaccine is developed, much of the population will avoid it and continue the spread albeit within a smaller susceptible population. Between now and then the unmasked freedom-fighters/domestic terrorists(those who work to harm our citizens and country) will continue to spread the disease. Not much good news for those with limited defenses I’m afraid. There are a lot of people in high places whose heads should roll. If you are now finding yourself on the wrong side of science and history I suggest you look forward and figure out how you can become part of the solution.

Throwing punches at moving shadows rarely relives the wild fears of darkness. As counting tests while extracting positives hardly scratches the surface. Here we are 4 months in yet the discoveries remain perfectly unclear to keep everyone guessing. This type of expertise seems to be purposeful under the premise of keeping uncertainty alive. Designed to protect from personal liability that any “official” will actually commit to being possibly wrong. There could easily be more people coming forward telling their stories of infection. There could be more data on location of outbreaks. We could be better informed on the degree of randomness that’s being used to test the population. We might be informed of comorbidity details. But vague conclusions inspire continued guessing which promotes simplified conclusions on how to prevent infection. Lock down, stay clear, mask up. It’s as if we’re waiting at a left hand turn arrow in the Mojave desert. Waiting. Just waiting. All while believing if we turn early we’d be breaking the law. While also knowing it’s best to wait for the all clear. We do this while seeing clearly that the roads look clear.
Yes, its true. We opened too soon. This virus can’t be defeated yet it can be contained simply by doing those things the have been recommended. Isolation (stay at home), socially distance when in public, wear a face mask when in public, test everyone who is symptomatic, and do extensive contact tracing!
Bad analogy, sorry. It’s more like waiting to pull onto a busy highway, there are many unsafe drivers about; do you wait for a safe opening in traffic with more distance between cars, or do you pull out and gun it hoping others will avoid your careless and thoughtless action?

The governor says shutting down the state is an option on the table…. Going to be a lot of ICU admissions and deaths soon. The disease has been pretty consistent about that – the hospital admissions and subsequent deaths lag behind the spikes by a week or two.
I do not understand anyone who argues the importance of wearing a mask. Sane level headed health officials with no political agenda are touting the benefits of wearing one and the costs of not wearing one. WHY would anyone put someone else in danger? Selfishness? Trump-ism? Hate? Ignorance? Arrogance? All of the above? I’m wearing a mask because I CARE about my fellow SB community and because I care about my own health and because this isn’t over yet.
