There’s a really remarkable weekend dance that takes place at Rincon every winter, the Rincon Classic Surf Contest.
Chris Keet and his team miraculously set the stage for us, waiting for the perfect alignment of weather and waves. And when it happens, the beach comes alive.
Tents rise, announcers take their places, world-class local surfers paddle out, and generations of families and friends gather to watch, cheer, and celebrate life, clean beaches and glassy surf.
This year’s event was no exception. Some of you may remember the torrential downpour on Wednesday and Thursday. Rain coming down in sheets, making it seem impossible that the weekend would be anything but a washout. But Chris, as if he had a direct line to the surf gods, made the call, umbrella in hand, and pressed the “GO BUTTON”.
He was exactly right!
By the weekend, the skies cleared, the waves delivered, and the event unfolded in perfect form. The dance was on! From jaw-dropping performances by local pros to groms catching their first waves in a competition setting, it was another unforgettable Classic. The beach was buzzing with energy. Friends reunited. Kids played in the sand. Surfers of all ages ripped in flawless, glassy waves.
Thank you for your brave bold call to hold the annual Rincon Classic surf contest this last weekend, Chris.

David – Thank YOU. I’ve gone ahead & done the download all… Really enjoying this one “Sunday 25 – Dubock.jpg” nice. As always superb shots. who doesn’t love a perfect B/W “Rincon Classic 14 Susie Clothier”.
Nobody cracks me up quite like master photographer, Glenn Dubock. And when the comical photographer Susie Clothier is in the mix, all heck breaks loose. So fun photographing with all the amazing photographers at the Rincon Classic.
Keet’s doing a great job keeping the event alive year after year. It can’t be easy. Love to see that it attracts all ages of surfers – groms to grandpas.
Great stuff Davey!
