Federal immigration authorities arrested 200 individuals during enforcement operations targeting marijuana farms in Camarillo and Carpinteria on Thursday, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The raids, which unfolded at facilities owned by Glass House Farms, were carried out by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and other federal agents with armored vehicles and members of the National Guard.

Several people were injured with one person put on life support as a result of their injuries connected to the raid.

Warrants and Allegations

DHS is claiming the operations, which included the execution of criminal warrants, are part of an ongoing investigation into immigration violations and allegations of child labor exploitation in the cannabis industry.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin claims that at least 10 undocumented minors were discovered at the facilities, eight of whom were unaccompanied. McLaughlin claimed the enforcement was aimed at rescuing children from potential exploitation, forced labor, and human trafficking.

CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott posted a photo on social media with agents posing with minors, claiming they were unaccompanied and found in the facility.

Governor Gavin Newsom responded stating, “We prosecute criminals that break child labor laws. You make the kids pose for photos, tear gas them, and promote laws like this:” while including headlines from news articles showing four GOP-controlled states rolling back child labor laws.

Glass House Farms disputes these claims, stating it fully complied with the warrants. “Yesterday, Glass House Brands received immigration and naturalization warrants. As per the law, we verified that the warrants were valid and we complied. Workers were detained and we are assisting to provide them legal representation,” the company stated on social media. “Glass House has never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and does not and has never employed minors. We do not expect this to affect operations moving forward. We will provide additional details when applicable.”

Glass House Farms holds multiple active cannabis cultivation licenses in California. Under California law, cannabis cultivation is legal with appropriate licensing, and Glass House Farms has operated legally in the state.

Showdown with Protesters Resulting in Arrests, Injuries and One Death

Tensions ran high during the enforcement operations, particularly in Camarillo, where protesters clashed with federal agents throughout the day. Roads surrounding the sprawling farm fields became a site of standoffs between law enforcement and demonstrators. According to DHS, four individuals were arrested for allegedly assaulting or resisting agents.

Federal officials also reported an armed altercation involving an individual seen firing an unidentified weapon at agents, although no injuries were reported. The FBI has issued a $50,000 reward for information on the suspect.

Videos from the scene showed white vans commonly used in immigration enforcement operations, as well as a U.S. Marshals Service bus. Witnesses also reported seeing Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents at the Carpinteria site, but federal authorities did not confirm their involvement.

Amid the chaos in Camarillo, the Ventura County Fire Department reported that seven people were injured during the clashes. Four individuals were transported to a hospital for evaluation, while three others were treated and released at the scene. In Carpinteria, protests were largely peaceful, though ICE agents reportedly deployed smoke bombs and stun grenades multiple times to disperse crowds.

On Saturday, July 12, a man has died from injuries connected to the raid. Jaime Alanis was placed on life support after he fell 30 feet off a building on Glass House Farms in Camarillo. Alanis sustained a broken neck and skull.

His family members reported on Saturday that he passed away following three days of being on life support. Alanis’ family says he was working at the farm to send money home to his wife and daughter in Mexico.

In Carpinteria, the raids were met by more than 100 peaceful protestors who were dispersed with smoke bombs and stun grenades. The incident has been widely criticized by residents and officials.

Statewide Response and Political Fallout

California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the operations in a strongly worded statement, describing them as fear-driven tactics under the Trump administration. Newsom accused the federal government of racially profiling Americans, tearing families apart, and detaining individuals—including U.S. citizens—to meet what he called “self-imposed arrest quotas.”

“Instead of supporting the businesses and workers that drive our economy and way of life, Stephen Miller’s tactics evoke chaos, fear, and terror within our communities at every turn,” Newsom’s office said.

In response to mounting tensions surrounding immigration enforcement in Southern California, the Trump administration activated National Guard personnel to protect federal properties and ensure the safety of agents. Armored vehicles and Guard members were spotted at both Camarillo and Carpinteria during Thursday’s raids.

Details about the precise nature of the allegations behind the warrants remain unclear, and federal authorities have stated that additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.

DHS maintains that these actions are designed to uphold federal laws and protect vulnerable individuals, though critics—including state officials and advocacy groups—continue to question the methods employed and the allegations levied against the facilities and their workers.

Congressman Salud Carbajal arrived during the protest in Carpinteria and was refused entry to the facility by agents.

“Yesterday in Carpinteria, I witnessed ICE agents using unnecessarily aggressive and militarized tactics against local farm workers and peaceful protesters. It was appalling. This is not how we keep our communities safe. As a Member of Congress, I have the legal right to oversee federal operations. Yet, I was denied entry,” Rep. Carbajal stated.

In response to Thursday’s operations, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office issued a statement.

“Instead of supporting the businesses and workers that drive our economy and way of life, Stephen Miller’s tactics evoke chaos, fear and terror within our communities at every turn,” Newsom’s office said. “At Miller’s direction, Trump’s agents continue to detain U.S. citizens and racially profile Americans, ripping families apart and disappearing parents and workers into cruel federal detention centers to meet their self-imposed arrest quotas.”

Newsom is also pushing back against internet commenters claiming the owners of Glass House Farms are supporters of the Democratic Party. Newsom responded to one comment posting a photo of Kyle Kazan, the Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Glass House Farms, posing with Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace.

“Sure is rich for Fox News and the Trump Admin to point to campaign donations to Democrats, when in fact, the CEO is a Trump supporter who donated to my recall and has given to more Republicans,” Newsom stated in a social media post.

The raids at Glass House Farms are part of broader immigration enforcement actions in Southern California in recent weeks. Federal agents have targeted a variety of locations, including car washes, farms, and parking lots at home improvement stores leaving immigrant communities and the whole of Southern California on edge.

  1. Not a single positive outcome. Not one human life was helped or improved. A total and complete waste of money, and all it did was terrorize a group of innocent, yes, innocent people at their jobs and kill one man.

Those soldiers were deployed against our own people and they and their CO’s should be deeply ashamed.

ICE agents are nothing more than thugs for organized crime and deserve long-standing shunning by all decent citizens.

  2. If Biden or Obama had done this, would the redhat idots be spouting the same crap they do now? You know the answer – that’s an easy one. Cry when it benefits you and hurt everyone else when it benefits you. Unfortunately those that think this is all a good idea are about a year away from poverty – no matter how well they think they are doing or how none of this will affect them personally. I see dummies everywhere – and when they open their mouths I hear them too.

  3. Judge Orders Halt
A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from conducting indiscriminate immigration stops in several California counties, including Los Angeles, and denying detainees access to lawyers, as the White House continues its sweeping immigration crackdown in the state that has set immigrant communities on edge and sparked protests.

    • Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California wrote in the order that the Trump administration agrees that “roving patrols without reasonable suspicion violate the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution and denying access to lawyers violates the Fifth Amendment.”

But, she said, “the federal government would have this Court believe — in the face of a mountain of evidence presented in this case — is that none of this is actually happening.”

She granted the plaintiffs’ request, writing that their ask that the government stop conducting such patrols is “a fairly modest request.”

In the ruling, she wrote that Trump administration “may not rely solely” on apparent race or ethnicity; speaking Spanish or English with an accent; presence at a particular location, such as a day laborer pick-up site; or the type of work a person does “to form reasonable suspicion for a detentive stop.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.

(Sorry! that I posted Mr. Alanis died)

    • Thank you for linking to this. Please share this as widely as possible so that other people will be inspired to organize and fight back against the criminals invading our community–yes they have the power of the Federal government and they have all the shiny guns, and yes they are mercenary prostitutes who kidnap decent people for money, but people can and should fight back. These brave farm workers just trying to do an honest day’s labor deserve our support.

      Good job!

  4. “DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin claims that at least 10 undocumented minors were discovered at the facilities, eight of whom were unaccompanied. McLaughlin claimed the enforcement was aimed at rescuing children from potential exploitation, forced labor, and human trafficking.” First, minors don’t normally carrying around documentation of citizenship and don’t have drivers licenses. Second, school is out for the summer. Many of these workers cannot afford daycare nor summer camps for their kids, so the kids come to the workplace with their parents. They are “unaccompanied” while their parents are working. Quite the leap in logic that these children are being trafficked or forced into labor just because they are present at the facility.

  5. ICE held EVERYONE at the farm, even citizens. Nobody was allowed to leave until they deleted all of the photos and videos from their phones of this tragic event. People had streamed live and sent photos while this action was going on. If they hadn’t, there’d be no evidence of anything ICE had done. WHY would they make everyone delete all of their digital data if they weren’t doing anything wrong?

  6. My 14 year old granddaughter lives in progressive Seattle where there was a protest of thousands of people against deportation. I want her to know history so I informed her that more people were deported under Barack Obama and Bill Clinton that in Trump’s first term. She was shocked and didn’t quite know what to think. I told her that when I was her age, it was not ICE but “La Migra” that had people terrified. This is nothing new but the protests and riots are new. Before Biden let the border get so lax, there was a decent balance and no one was really complaining. I blame him for allowing so many to come in so that we now have this horrible mess!

    • You’re lying. Federal invading forces are kidnapping people off the streets with no evidence, no probable cause, a total violation of the constitution. Your grand daughter should send you a copy so you can read it.

In this country it is illegal to detain people because of the color of their skin, their location, or the way they speak.

      Do you not understand that?

    • You would have to be willfully stupid or just plain uneducated and not watching real news to think what happened under Obama is the same as what is happening now. I mean, shint, look at the effing photos and videos! This has NEVER HAPPENED in our history.

Stop getting your news from liars and racists. Look at the actual facts for once.

Sorry, but I’m done giving willfully ignorant people a pass. You can’t bury your head in the sand deep enough to ignore this anymore.

You support this, you’re a racist. Plain and simple.

  7. If any lawmakers reading, PLEASE consider Reagan type amnesty after the border is securely CLOSED. This amnesty would involve work visas for those paying taxes and not on welfare. Any illegals on welfare should hit the road.

  8. I read an account by an employee that the agents were marking all workers with brown skin and separating them from white workers, calling them “wet” and drawing Xs on their hands.

    This is disgusting beyond words.

Does anyone know if any local business owners support this? I think the way we fight the evil racists is by hurting their wallets. So many filthy and cruel people in our community are cheering this. If they own businesses, that should be made public so good people can boycott them or more.

As for ICE themselves, I don’t know what we can do. I would be completely fine with doxing them though. Make life unbearable for the horrendous trash who choose to do this to other human beings.

Sorry, but the good people of our community aren’t going to take this anymore. We can’t let the racist filth of our country carry on freely anymore. It’s time to fight with every tool we have to stop what is quickly devolving into the 4th Reich.
