A 100-foot pine tree fell onto an Orcutt home causing major damage on Wednesday.

At 9:41 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a tree down on a structure at 4614 Martin Ave. Upon arrival, they found a 100-foot pine tree had fallen from a neighbor's yard onto a residential home. The tree fell onto the garage and the main residence, causing major damage, said Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.

Several occupants were inside the home at the time, but everyone was able to get out safely and no injuries were reports, said Zaniboni.

A nearby power pole also came down with the tree exposing live wires. PG&E was on scene to shut off the power to the live wires.

Captain Zaniboni stated crews will be on scene for a while to clean up debris and it's unknown if the residents will be displaced. The Red Cross, as well as a building department inspector, were requested.

I hope people who learn of this don't go off in a panic and start hiring tree companies to remove trees. Everyone should know that a lot of tree companies LOVE to remove trees---$$$$----healthy trees or not. Get an honest assessment done and don't believe the "if they're not native they'll come crashing down" nonsense. Australian trees are MADE for drought conditions. Montecito Tree care is my recommendation for honesty and no b.s. with killing trees that may live for another 100+ years.

Hope the insurance doesn't claim "Act of God" which isn't covered. From the mess in the photo it looks like the residents will be displaced,

Thank goodness no one was injured. A few years back we removed or severely cut back the trees around our estate. We were told that due to the lack of water that many of the trees that are not native to our area were going to die. More trees will fall, so hire an arborist to check the trees on your property...you will be glad you did!!!
