Ajinomoto Foods North America is recalling approximately 3.4 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice shipped to Trader Joe’s stores across the United States and to retailers in Canada because the products may contain glass, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Thursday.
The recall covers “not ready-to-eat” chicken fried rice produced at the company’s Portland, Oregon, facility between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025.
Trader Joe’s-branded items come in 20-ounce packages and include stir-fried rice, vegetables, chicken, and eggs.
Ajinomoto is also recalling cardboard packages exported to Canada that contain six bags labeled “Ajinomoto yakitori chicken with Japanese-style fried rice,” with best-by dates from Sept. 9 through Nov. 12.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said the products may be contaminated with foreign material, “specifically glass,” after Ajinomoto alerted the agency following four consumer reports of glass found in the food. No injuries have been reported.
Trader Joe’s said certain lot codes of its Chicken Fried Rice (SKU 33251) with “Best By” dates between 9/08/26 and 11/17/26 are affected. The grocer urged customers not to use the product and to discard it or return it for a full refund. Customers with questions can contact Trader Joe’s Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time, or send an email.
Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled products and to throw them away.
