State housing mandates have done nothing to help affordability. In desirable coastal communities there will never be enough housing to fill the demand. The trickle down effect doesn’t apply to housing here. According to the Department of Finance Santa Barbara County has a vacancy rate of 7.2% but a rental vacancy rate of 2.5%. That’s a lot of second homes and vacation rentals. Top that off with a local developer buying up single family homes and turning them into dorms. These rooms are renting for over $1000 per person a month with 9-10 people per house. The only thing these lax laws have done is increased evictions, raised rents, gentrified neighborhoods, caused parking nightmares, created lots of vacation rentals, added density to inappropriate areas and began the creation of a generation of renters. Why is there an arbitrary line at the 30% mark for what someone can spend on housing? People in Santa Barbara have always paid through the nose. I remember a time when it cost me 60% of my earnings for housing that I shared with 4 other people that also put in a majority of their paycheck. I shouldn’t have to subsidize developers so they can stack n pack in neighborhoods. I would much rather see my tax dollars go to help first time homebuyers and disadvantaged communities with down payments.

These people have horribly misguided. The only barrier to peace in the region is Hamas. It’s always been the case. All these pro Palestinian protesters have been blindly mislead to believe Israel is the enemy when in fact Israel is simply trying to eradicate a terrorist organization that has said it never wants peace, that kills its own people when they try to flee, who threatens repeat attacks of October 7, who uses its own people as human shields, who raped young girls, the list goes on. But yeah…let’s all be sheep and hold up “free Palestine” flags cuz it’s cool. Smfh. Pathetic

No mention of the horrific massacre by Hamas that started the whole thing.

These individuals are mindless, clueless and misguided. I almost feel bad for them.

This mob moved into downtown residential areas where they got to intimidate local Jews with their pro terrorist message.
