Janet Napier 2018 President Santa Barbara Lawn Bowls Club
By Bonnie Carroll
London born and raised Janet Napier was installed earlier this month to serve as President of the Santa Barbara Lawn Bowls Club, founded in 1937. Napier immigrated to America as a young woman and received her BA and MBA degrees from San Francisco State University. She served as President/CEO of Easter Seals Tri-Counties in California for nine years, was the President of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise 2002/2003, and continues to be active on their community and international service committees. She also volunteers for Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and as a volunteer for American Red Cross. She is currently assisting with disaster relief following the Thomas Fire and Montecito Flood.
Once retired in 2005, she took lessons at the SBLBC and enjoys the social aspects of the club, as well as relieving her stress while having fun with her fellow bowlers. Janet says lawn bowls is an easy game but it takes a lot of practice to become an expert, which she is not. She is married to Connard Hogan, a retired Marriage & Family Therapist, and they enjoy traveling around the world for pleasure and Rotary projects.
As new President of the SBLBC, Janet is looking forward to developing the Tuesday Night Lawn Bowls campaign being coordinated by Scott Coons, and welcomes business people and residents to come to the club at 1216 De La Vina Street, in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday nights for free lessons and an introduction to the art of lawn bowls.
