A WINDOW TO THE ARTS
Silo118 and the Squire Foundation present
A WINDOW TO THE ARTS: Artists painting in a pop-up storefront art studio
Live painting all evening, First Thursday, November 2, starting at 5pm at 927 State Street
On view November 2 – November 4
Watch through the windows or mingle with professional artists as they create masterpieces in one night of frenetic painting. This is a rare opportunity to observe the magic that becomes a great painting as these artists navigate the complexities of creating large-scale works.
Silo118 and the Squire Foundation are joining forces to present this exciting event on State Street, next to the Italian Pottery Store. We give a shout out to Marta Alligood, owner of the property for letting us try something new, for having the foresight to bring new energy to a district that is depressed with over 30 empty storefront properties. It is a verifiable fact that communities that focus on and support the arts as a major part of their business plan recover faster and sustain longer after a serious downturn or depression.
The art will be available for sale at pre-gallery prices — a rare opportunity to buy art directly from the artist while watching the process unfold. Collectors and buyers pay attention! You can select a piece in progress before completion! Price points are generally below what these artists would typically command for their work.
This is a list of confirmed artists participating (there will be more to come):
Chad Avery, Vanessa Bley, Max Gleason, Tom Pazderka, Matt Sesow, Yumiko Glover.
This event is also an opportunity to meet Matt Sesow, a Washington, DC-based painter who will be here in Santa Barbara for a three-week residency with the Squire Foundation, culminating with a solo exhibition at Silo118 (opening November 10).
