Virtual 5K Run for CommUNITY

My name is Kaitlyn Tang and I am a teenager here in Santa Barbara. The recent racial injustices have been brutal and heart-breaking. I had it on my heart to start an annual fundraiser. On Saturday, July 25, the Run for CommUNITY 5k will take place. This is a “virtual” 5k that you can do from your own neighborhoods so that we can stay safe during COVID-19, while still supporting a good cause. Feel free to run/walk at any part of the day, and I ask you to do two things.

1.) Donate – with your participation, consider donating to this cause as we participate in this fun event. No amount is too small. Please share this GoFundMe link with friends, family, neighbors, and on social media accounts and let people know that you are running to support this cause, and ask them to consider donating on your behalf.

2.) Think about, talk, or pray about what is happening in our world and how you can help bring about justice and peace. 

Use #runforcommunitySB and #sbybp to spread the word and post pictures of your participation in the 5k. I am excited about this and I hope you are too! 

This year, 100% of proceeds will go to SBYBP (Santa Barbara Young Black Professionals). SBYBP is the first and only young professional group in the area catered towards fostering the African American community and creating opportunities for young professionals. SBYBP’s mission is “to create and foster positive relationships which empower young Black professionals in the Santa Barbara area by creating and participating in opportunities for professional development, social enrichment, and community service.” SBYBP hosts dozens of mixers, workshops, and many other community based events yearly that align with their mission.
