“…sensational instrumental music that knows no boundaries”.
– Acoustic Magazine
Clive is considered to be one of the UK’s leading guitar masters. He has toured across Europe, Australia, the Middle East and North America, garnering praise for his sublime performances of everything from 16th and 17th century lute music to Jazz standards, Blues, Irish reels and his own groundbreaking compositions. Lauded guitarist Tommy Emmanuel has also taken Clive on the road, he was a touring partner with the late John Renbourn and has in fact created a tribute album titled The Abbot. The album is achieving world-wide acclaim:
“Clive Carroll is one the UK’s most respected acoustic guitarists, from his classical music education to sharing stages with modern legends like Tommy Ernmanuel. Reflecting on working with John Renbourn in the 1990s, this album features Clive and friends honouring the music of the legendary master. Clive’s playing spans arpeggios, jazzy soloing (check out Buffalo), modal chords (Orlando), rich classical pas sages (Lady (Goes To Church) and lots of nifty fingerpicking. His tone is rounded and rich, playing instruments from bass and banjo to bodhran and vocals. Among the players, the track Sidi Brahim features jazz six-stringer Mike Walker and US acoustic legend, Stefan Grossman, With lovely playing in various musical scenarios celebrating one of the UK’s great guitarists, The Abbot really is rather special! Similar nods to Clive’s musicianship have been given by everyone from classical guitarist John Williams to Madonna, Guy Ritchie, Michelin award-winning chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, and the Sultanate of Oman.
