UCSB Wind Ensemble, Winter Concert

March 9, 2023 @ 7:30 am PST

Thursday, March 9 at 7:30pm

The UCSB Wind Ensemble will present its Winter Quarter Concert, “Wind Ensemble After Dark”, on March 9, at 7:30 pm in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Music Director Andy Radford, is made up of musicians from the UCSB Department of Music, as well as musicians from the university community.

Many of the pieces in this concert have a connection to how we perceive and survive our nights.

Galilean Moons by Roger Cichy, contains four movements that consider the diversity of the four moons of Jupiter, first seen by Galileo.

The Berceuse and Finale from Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird, contains a lovely Lullaby/Berceuse (sung to baby dragons in the original ballet!).

As If Morning Might Arrive by Jack Stamp, depicts the lifting of the nightly mist, and the dawning of the new day.

Fanfare Ritmico, by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon, is a highly energetic piece. It would be well served as a fanfare celebrating surviving the night!

Fugue in C by Charles Ives, and Perchance to Dream by Derek Bourgeois will also be performed.

Join us after the show for a brief reception to celebrate the talent of our students.

General ($10); Senior/Military/Non-UCSB students with ID ($7); UCSB students with ID and children under 12 (FREE)
