Truths and Misconceptions about the World of Competitive Sports

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

6:30 pm held at Christ Presbyterian Church (36 E. Victoria Street, Santa Barbara)

This session is designed for families of students interested in middle school, high school, and college competitive sports.

A knowledgeable and experienced panel will share the “Truths and Misconceptions” surrounding:

  • the rules associated with the various athletic levels
  • how to be noticed by coaches
  • how to choose the right school or college where one would be able to participate
  • how college athletic scholarships are awarded

An impressive panel with vast experience in athletics includes:

  • John Moore, Assistant Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Coach, Westmont College
  • Ryan Moore, formerly of University of San Francisco and Occidental College
  • Faith Emerson Providence alum, member of CIF championship girls basketball team (2102), and four-year player and starter for the Whitworth College Pirates (Spokane, Washington).
  • Kristin Stockfisch, Arizona State athlete, now overseeing Fellowship of Christian Athletes on local college campuses
  • Moderated by Steve Stokes, Providence athletic director and boys basketball coach. Under his direction, Providence has won the league championship and was named CIF State Academic Champions.

Anyone who is curious about secondary and college-level sports–students, parents, and youth sports coaches– is welcome to attend this free event.

Registration is not required.
