On October 6, the harvest moon rose full over the unmistakable Santa Barbara ridgeline. Two groups of intrepid paddlers were putting their “paddles in the water” to raise money for Wilderness Youth Project’s Bridge to Nature campaign. They know, as you do, that nature connection is fundamental to a happy healthy childhood, and that providing nature connection during the school day to the children with the greatest need generates academic and personal success.
The Moon Dance Benefit on November 4th, 2017, will mark the culmination of our six week
Bridge to Nature campaign and WE NEED YOUR HELP to reach our goal by November 4th. With luck and with your support, by the end of the evening we will have raised $250,000 to bring nature connection to Santa Barbara’s underserved public elementary schools.

The Moon Dance will be a magical outdoor evening with live music, a contra dance caller, local beer and wine, wood-fired pizza, and great company. Join the WYP community at Imagine Park on Cathedral Oaks Road set in the natural beauty of mature oaks, fruit trees, gardens, and meandering pathways. It’s guaranteed to be a special evening under the moon and stars.
Nothing can replace early connections and transformative experiences in nature. Your support cultivates the next generation of environmental stewards.
WYP’s Development Director, Michelle Howard, makes a case for the role WYP can play in helping lead the movement in a recent blog post featured in the Huffington Post:
“….Time outdoors, in turns out, is fundamentally really really good for humans. The list of benefits on body and brain read like a miracle drug: it will make you smarter, healthier and happier. There’s a veritable deluge of research. Want to see how nature makes kids do better on tests? Why it makes them nicer to each other? How their bodies respond to movement outdoors? The way thirty minutes of time outside is about as effective as ADD/ADHD meds for some kids?”
