December 1835: Richard Henry Dana and his shipmates attend festivities in Santa Barbara that lead up to the wedding of Anita De la Guerra, daughter of the Presidio’s Comandante, to Alfred Robinson, the local representative for a hide and tallow trading company. They gather with the many friends and family members who come from far and near to begin the celebration. Enjoy this sharing of historic traditions from the sea, the missions and the Spanish ranchos, as described by Dana in his classic book, Two Years Before the Mast. Celebrate the season!
