Tahoe Rim Trail Overview & Sustainable Trail Use

Free Online Presentation with Q&A
Thursday, July 21st, 5:30pm

During this presentation, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) will provide a brief overview of the history and current state of the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) system, what to know before you go, and information on sustainable trail use. The TRTA is proud to steward one of the premier trail systems in the world, expanding and improving the trail and associated assets so that visitors can enjoy and recreate safely. The mission of the TRTA is to maintain and enhance the TRT system, practice and inspire stewardship, and preserve access to the natural beauty of the Lake Tahoe region. The TRTA works tirelessly to ensure the TRT’s wild places and trail experience are just as phenomenal in the future as they are today. The TRTA provides a world-class trail experience for more than 500,000 hikers, bikers, and equestrians annually, enabling the public to experience Tahoe’s iconic landscapes, charismatic fauna, and captivating flora.

Presenters:

Morgan Steel, Executive Director

Morgan’s adventures with Tahoe Rim Trail began many years ago hiking, biking, and skiing on the trail. Today, as the Executive Director of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, she gets to enjoy the Tahoe Rim Trail full-time. Morgan previously served as the TRTA’s Director of Operations where she was responsible for the development, coordination, and management of the Trail Operations Program including trail building and trail maintenance as well as supporting fiscal and administrative programs and projects. Morgan came to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association most recently from the Sierra Nevada Alliance where she directed the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership which places AmeriCorps members throughout the Sierra Nevada to conduct watershed restoration and education. Morgan has also worked with various conservation organizations including the Student Conservation Association, Northwest Youth Corps, and the National Park Service. She is passionate about trails and preserving all of the unique and awe-inspiring qualities and features that make the Tahoe Rim Trail experience world-class!

Tommy Rosenbluth, Director of Operations

Tommy was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. His love for the outdoors blossomed during his childhood when he would hike in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and go canoeing in the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area of Minnesota and the Quetico Provincial Area in Canada. While pursuing his MS in Environmental Conservation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison he briefly worked for the National Park Service at Yellowstone National Park conducting research on visitor use management. It was during this time his love and appreciation for public lands and for connecting future generations to nature grew stronger. He went on to work as a Recreation Program Intern with the Bureau of Land Management in the Southern New Mexico District before becoming a Program Manager at the American Public Gardens Association. Back in 2013, he was a summer Nevada Conservation Corps Trail Crew Member, building trails near Lake Tahoe, so this is truly a full-circle moment and he is excited to return to the region and help preserve and maintain the Tahoe Rim Trail.
