Socialization in Community and Schools of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

This ongoing monthly Autism Speaker and Discussion Series is a partnership between Santa Barbara Public Library and the UCSB’s Koegel Autism Center.

It features presentation of the practical application of research by UCSB faculty and graduate students.

March’s topic is: Socialization in Community and Schools of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

This presentation will focus on strategies for providing socialization opportunities for school-aged children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in inclusive school and community contexts.

Geared towards parents and professionals alike, this presentation will describe practical strategies and ideas based on current research for facilitating social interactions within inclusive school and community settings and activities. This hour-long presentation will be followed by a Q & A session.

Presenter: Kelsey Oliver, M.A., is a doctoral candidate at UCSB in Education with an emphasis in Special Education, Disabilities, and Developmental Risk Studies and a clinician at the Koegel Autism Center at UCSB. Her research interests include developing practices for educating and supporting parents of children with ASD and establishing interventions that support inclusive education of students with ASD in schools.
