“Silver”: 25th Anniversary Exhibition in Los Olivos

October 1, 2017 @ 10:00 am PDT

Set in one of the most picturesque valleys of Central California is the town of Los Olivos.  More than 300 exhibitions have been hung at Gallery Los Olivos since it opened 25 years ago. However, for the month of October, GLO will show a selection of work from all of their artists in the show aptly titled “Silver”: 25th Anniversary Exhibition. All the works of art in the show are also reflections of what the artist sees as ‘silver.’  The interpretations are as varied as the genres of art represented.  The richness of the work keeps patrons coming back for more. GLO has created it’s own momentum by offering high quality work at affordable prices.

President Claudia Chapman said it all.  “Exceptional talent and artistic diversity have been the hallmarks of Gallery Los Olivos. That the Gallery has not only survived through tough economic times, but has grown and is downright robust is validation of those qualities’ pursuits. At a time when many galleries have gone under, our success is truly celebratory. The 25th Anniversary show in October will reflect the qualities for which the Board strives and promises to be stunning.”

Twenty-five years ago, Los Olivos was a very different town than what it is today.  The impact the 2004 film “Sideways” had on the valley, and especially Los Olivos, was palpable.  Before that, the town was populated with many art galleries. Many had work from artists who were not local. The lack of a place to show the incredible work of local artists became a cause for a few stalwart souls. Vicki Andersen, Carol Simon and Peggy Fletcher are the only three of the original instigators who are still with GLO. When the Grand Avenue space opened up, it was the catalyst for the artists to find a way to open a collective gallery space.  By bringing in the Santa Ynez Valley Art Association to take over the “Guild Room” in the Gallery for its members, GLO would finally make good fiscal sense.

One of the artists pulled from the nearly 50-member group has their work showcased each month.  There’s never a lack of material to choose from with all mediums the artists work in – from oil, acrylics and watercolor, to pastels, pen and pencil – it also has fine artists whose photography, jewelry and sculpture create a total spectrum of creative work.

Slowly but surely the gallery spaces began leaving and tasting rooms for many of the wineries based in the SYV took up residence.  Art and wine coexist nicely now as a great combo for visitors to make Los Olivos a destination.

On Saturday, Oct. 8 from 1 – 4 pm GLO will host an artists reception.  Local wines and light appetizers will be featured.  We invite you to come and meet the artists at this event.   GLO is at 2920 Grand Avenue, and is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm.  Members of GLO fulfill their membership by taking care of the gallery in various ways. All shows are juried and “Silver will also have a “People’s Choice” award, so we encourage all patrons to participate in this.

October also includes the town-wide celebration “A Day in the Country” now in its’ 38th year.  The town hops and pops from 10am till 4pm and GLO will jump in from 1 – 4pm.  Members will have easels set up in front of their gallery creating and enriching the day’s events.(For more info visit: http://www.losolivosca.com/day-in-the-countrywww.GalleryLosOlivos.com
