More than five dozen artists who make up the Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment (SCAPE) announced the annual “Visions of the Gaviota Coast” art show at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara on Friday & Saturday, March 13 & 14. This annual exhibition and sale benefit the Gaviota Coast Conservancy (GCC). An awards presentation for the juried art show happens at the Friday night reception where you’ll be mixing and mingling with the artists, and perhaps choosing the piece of art you want to take home. Great raffle prizes, a screening on Saturday, a beautiful location all make for an unforgettable event at this five-star hotel that has generously hosted the show since it began in 2013.
Special this year: Any reservation made during the dates of February 14th through March 15th, 2020, the Ritz Carlton Bacara will donate 10% based on our best available rate to the Gaviota Coastal Conservancy. To support the Gaviota Coastal Conservancy, please call direct to (805) 571-3258 and mention the Gaviota Coastal Conservancy when making your reservation.
SCAPE Board president, Carrie Givens who has been a member of SCAPE for many years noted, “SCAPE is a group of artists who happen to love painting the Santa Barbara landscape, flora and fauna, and also realize the importance of keeping the Gaviota Coast protected from abuse of over development. With that, we appreciate the work GCC has been doing to preserve this coastal landscape so it is natural for us to partner with them.” She continued, “This is the eighth year working with GCC at Bacara that supports this cause as well. We exhibit approximately 200 pieces of artwork. I invite you to come enjoy the reception and take the opportunity to take home a beautiful painting.” SCAPE artists donate a full 40% from the sale of their work to GCC. This year’s juror is the distinguished artist Rick Garcia. SCAPE has raised more than $150K for its beneficiaries over the years.
Gaviota’s coast is the last open coastline in Southern California with a bio diversity rating that is off the charts. SCAPE painters help people to see the magnificence of the stunning Gaviota landscapes from the mountain tops to the shoreline.
In addition to the art show, there will be screenings of two documentaries focusing on the Gaviota Coast on Saturday only at 1 pm. Shaw Leonard & Tamlorn Chase’s “Gaviota: The End of Southern California” and “Losing Ground” which features a rancher who’s also a board member for GCC, Gunner Tautrim. His family has farmed the land on the Gaviota Coast for five generations. How the agricultural lands have kinship with the conservationists is explored in “Losing Ground.” Doug Kern, GCC Executive Director stated, “These movie screenings demonstrate the urgency we feel to permanently protect the Gaviota Coast. Not only are we conserving important natural and cultural resources, but also a rural, ranching and farming way of life that connects us all as a community.”
Weekend schedule starts at 1 pm on Friday March 13 with a reception from 5 – 8pm that evening. Raffles prizes include a gift certificate for a one-hour flight over Gaviota for up to three people from Above All Aviation. Ritz-Carlton Bacara is donating three wonderful prizes: a Two-Night stay in Deluxe King Accommodations, a Dinner for Two at Angel Oak Restaurant and a relaxing 50-minute Signature Massage or Bespoke Facial. Circle Bar B Ranch donated a Two-Night Stay for Two in a Private Cabin or a Deluxe Ranch Room including meals and other amenities at Circle Bar B Guest Ranch.
