SB Rose Society presents “Vintage Roses!”

November 14, 2019 @ 7:00 am PST

The next meeting of the Santa Barbara Rose Society is on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019  from 7 – 9 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 909 N La Cumbre Road at Foothill in Santa Barbara.  This month’s topic is “Vintage Roses!” featuring world-renowned heritage rose expert Gregg Lowery, curator of The Friends of Vintage Roses collection of more than 4000 rose varieties in Sebastopol, California.

These rare old roses formed the basis for his nursery Vintage Gardens. In 2012 he handed over his extensive rare rose collection, his passion for 40 years, to The Friends of Vintage Roses, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving these roses for their educational, cultural, and scientific value. Gregg has served as Vice-President of the Heritage Rose Foundation and he developed and co-edited the Foundation’s journal, Rosa Mundi from 2005 through 2014. A prolific writer and speaker on heritage roses, Gregg has spoken on the history and future of heritage roses around the world, most notably in Perth, Australia; in Lyon, France; in Sakura, Japan; Dunedin, New Zealand; and, in 2016, at the WFRS conference in Beijing, China. As a garden designer he has created more than 100 gardens in California and across the USA.

Santa Barbara Rose Society meetings are FREE. We invite everyone to come at 7 pm to socialize and sample our refreshments before the 7:15 Little Rose Show and 7:30 pm speaker presentation. Our motto is “Come for the Roses; Stay for the Friends.”

Guests are welcome! If you grow roses, please bring your cut roses to show off and any rose plants you would like to share. We also welcome goodies for our refreshments table and items for our fun raffle.
