SANTA BARBARA REVELS CELEBRATES MAY DAY!

Our 18th annual event at Paseo Nuevo Shopping Center

Spring is calling and Santa Barbara is invited to answer.

Santa Barbara Revels welcomes the community to its 18th Annual May Day Celebration, a joyful, music-filled tradition that brings the spirit of spring to life. The festivities begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 2nd at Paseo Nuevo Shopping Center (across from the cinema), and best of all, it’s completely FREE and open to all ages.

This beloved community event transforms an ordinary morning into something magical. Guests are invited to sing along to lively seasonal songs, learn traditional English country dances, and take part in hands-on activities that celebrate renewal, connection, and joy. Create your own nosegays and posies with fresh flowers, or simply soak in the festive atmosphere.

At the heart of the celebration is the iconic Maypole dance, a vibrant, swirling ritual where participants weave colorful ribbons into intricate patterns as they circle the pole in opposite directions. It’s a beautiful, living tapestry of movement and music… and just as tradition demands, what is woven together is later unwoven, ready to return again next spring.

Since 2008, Santa Barbara Revels has been dedicated to “Bringing Tradition to Life,” inviting people of all backgrounds to experience the shared joy of seasonal celebration through music, dance, storytelling, and ritual. Founder and Artistic Director Susan Keller puts it simply: “Join us and be joyous!”

Whether you come to dance, sing, create, or simply enjoy the moment, May Day is a chance to celebrate the season together as a community.
