Santa Barbara Master Chorale sings Jubilate Deo & Gloria
The Jubilate Deo, which premiered in 2016, is being given its first Santa Barbara performance. It brings to life the global aspect of the traditional Psalm 100,”O be joyful in the Lord, all ye lands,” by featuring an exciting array of languages: Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Zulu, Spanish, and English. Each movement combines some characteristics of its language-group’s musical culture with Forrest’s own musical experience.
Of the thirty-seven liturgical chorale works composed by Vivaldi, the Gloria is by far the most popular. It is filled with all the excitement and vigor of his instrumental pieces, yet also contains passages of great warmth and tenderness. The soloists’ sections reflect the Italian Baroque style of Vivaldi’s operas.
The performance will be at First Presbyterian Church, 21 East Constance Ave. Tickets are $22 general admission, $20 seniors and disabled, $12 college students with ID, and free for children in K-12. They can be purchased at Chaucer’s Bookstore, Eventbrite.com, www.sbmasterchorale.org, and at the door.
