Santa Barbara Humane Society Hosts Free Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic

The Santa Barbara Humane Society plans to celebrate World Spay Day in a
big way by offering 100 free cat spay and neuter surgeries on Thursday, February 27, 2020.
Surgeries will be performed at the Santa Barbara Humane Society-South Campus veterinary
clinic. Appointments may be made online at www.SBHumaneSociety.org or by calling
805-964-4777, ext. 281.

World Spay Day, which is celebrated on the last Tuesday of February, was launched in 1995 by
Doris Day and the Doris Day Animal League to promote spaying and neutering of animals as a
means of combating the issue of pet overpopulation.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity for the public to spay or neuter their cat for
free,” said Executive Director Kerri Burns, “our entire community benefits when we reduce pet
population, and the individual animals benefit as well.” Cats that are spayed or neutered are less
prone to certain kinds of cancer and less likely to spray or mark their territory.
The Spay Day promotion is available for cats 2 months and older and appointments are required.
