SANTA BARBARA CENTRE FOR AERIAL DANCE PRESENTS On Threaded Wings

May 23, 2019 @ 7:00 am PDT

The Santa Barbara Centre for Aerial Dance returns to the Lobero Theatre for an evening of art and awe-inspiring dance as performers take to the air in a kinetic journey of ritual and release. Weaving textile installations from New York artist Tamika Rivera with contemporary dance and the ancient tradition of the aerial arts, the theater will be transformed into a visual narrative of colorful expression and electric strength that will leave audiences at once grounded and spiritually elevated.

Set to an acoustic backdrop of strings and percussion, and featuring metal and fabric apparatus dyed and stitched using traditional techniques from Europe and the Americas, On Threaded Wings honors and highlights the generational kinetic and artisanal practices that have been an integral part of the female experience since time immemorial. Don’t miss this transformative evening filled with magical thinking and expansive realism that reinforces women’s fundamental contribution to the fabric of civilization.

Direction and Choreography by Ninette Paloma with additional choreography by Simon Solberg, Robin Bisio, and Shelby Lynn Joyce.
