Ricks at the Brewery

December 14, 2017 @ 4:00 am PST

Meg Ricks will have a show and sale of her paintings at the Island Brewing Company from November 21, 2017 to January 14, 2018.

“Such a combination of joy and sophistication is rare,” said New York art critic Barbara Flanagan on seeing Meg Ricks’ painting, “Prisoners Harbor Colors.” That painting, along with about a dozen others, now hangs at the Island Brewing Company in Carpinteria, in a show and sale that lasts until January 14, 2018.

“It’s an opportunity to see the bigger paintings that I can’t usually enter into shows,” Meg pointed out, adding, “In addition, lots of smaller paintings and drawings in the show make affordable and unique holiday presents.”

The Island Brewing Company is a family run brewery with a family-friendly tasting room, indoor and outdoor seating and a view, at 5049 6th Street in Carpinteria. “It’s a great spot to stop after the beach,” said a recent visitor, Mike Doherty. The Island Brewing Company’s tasting room is open noon to 9pm weekdays, 12-10 Fridays, 11-10 Saturdays and 11-9 Sundays. The Ricks exhibit and sale will be up until January 14, 2018, with frequent changes of paintings.

An award-winning artist active in environmental and land preservation, Ricks is known for her abstracts and expressive landscapes. Her early mentors included abstract expressionist Joe Stefanelli, along with other Columbia University and Art Students League teachers, and in recent years, she has studied with local artists John and Larry Iwerks, Rick Stich, Michael Drury, Deborah Breedon, Jill Sattler, Chris Chapman, Meredith Brooks and Whitney Brooks Abbott, Tony Askew, Jim Armstrong, Thomas Van Stein, California artists Eric Merrell as well as east coast based Catherine Kehoe, David Campbell and Ken Kewley.
