Ready to Hang, our region’s largest pop-up art show is returning for its 6th year the weekend before Thanksgiving – Saturday, November 22nd from 4pm – 9 pm. This pop up show has become an annually-awaited artistic tradition open to local artists for creations 12 by 12 inches in size. This annual show presents a unique opportunity to see new works by 350 Santa Barbara area artists in one show.
Ready to Hang is the largest event put on by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative on their home turf at the Community Arts Workshop (CAW). “Ready to Hang is both a public display and an intimate glimpse into the creative practices of our incredible art community,” said Michael Long, Ready to Hang Curator. “It offers artists a chance to come out of the studio and share their work with one another.”
This treasured event typifies the spirit of the Community Arts Workshop as space for everyone to create and share. The show is already one of our region’s largest showcases of local art. In 2024 the show drew more than 1000 viewers at the Saturday pop-up show. The theme given to artists this year is – “Origins”.
Free and open to the public, the Ready to Hang pop-up sale supports local artists. All works are for sale by dozens of area painters, photographers, assemblage makers, tattoo artists, fabric artists, printmakers and more. Prices set by the artists span a wide range, from a few dollars into the low thousands, making it a delightful opportunity for collectors new and seasoned. Three cash prizes will be given out, $100 for 1st place, $75 for 2nd place, and $50 for 3rd place by a guest judge to be announced. Other prizes include: Realism Award, Mad Skillz Award, Craftsmanship Award, Clever Award, Tongue & Cheek Award.
Submissions this year are already nearing the three hundred mark and entries are still steadily being submitted.
Purchases will be immediately available to “un-hang” and take home on Saturday after 6pm. Artists interested in participating can visit sbcaw.org/hang.
Special thanks goes to our sponsors: Validation Ale, Artiste Winery, Montecito Bank & Trust, American Rivera Bank, Mercury Lounge, & Environment Makers.
