Ready to Hang, our region’s largest pop-up art show, opens Saturday, November 23rd with the extended hours of 4pm – 9 pm. Now in the fifth iteration of what has already become an annually-awaited artistic tradition, this pop up show is open to all local artists for creations 12 by 12 inches in size. Ready to Hang presents a unique opportunity to see new works by our entire community of artists in one show.
Ready to Hang is the largest event put on by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative on their home turf at the Community Arts Workshop (CAW). “Ready to Hang is both a public display and an intimate glimpse into the creative practices of our incredible art community,” said Michael Long, Ready to Hang Curator. “It offers artists a chance to come out of the studio and share their work with one another.”
Ready to Hang typifies the spirit of the Community Arts Workshop as space for everyone to create and share. The show is already one of our region’s largest showcases of local art. In 2023 we exhibited 450 pieces of art by more than 200 artists, with more than 1000 people viewing the show. This year, the team is changing things up by limiting one piece per artist and ending entries once 350 pieces have been reached. The theme this year is – “Connectivity”.
Free and open to the public, the Ready to Hang pop-up sale supports local artists and is also a fundraiser to help support the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative’s programs. All works are for sale by dozens of area painters, photographers, assemblage makers, tattoo artists, fabric artists, printmakers and more. Prices set by the artists span a wide range, from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, making it a delightful opportunity for collectors new and seasoned. Three cash prizes will be given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place by guest judge Tom Pazderka, the curator for the SB County Office of Arts and Culture.
Music for the public sale will be provided by Tripform, the groundbreaking music duo of Pablo Manzarek and Norm Reed. Submissions this year are already nearing the three hundred mark and entries are still steadily being submitted.
Purchases will be immediately available to “un-hang” and take home on Saturday after 6pm. Artists interested in participating can visit sbcaw.org/hang or contact show curator Michael Long: (805) 729-2425, michaelevanlong@gmail.com.
Special thanks goes to our presenting sponsor Sullivan Goss.
