Nomad Tango opens its Fourth Season with another local favorite: Noches de Tango at Buena Onda & Empanadas

April 18 @ 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm PDT

On Thursday, April 18, Nomad Tango is launching its 4th season with another Noche de Tango at Buena Onda.

We will host The Gorczynski Tango Quartet, an all-USA Tango band composed of four maestros. Each one of them merits performing at the great music halls of the world (and they have), but they have fallen in love with tango and now prefer to play in the bohemian rooms and embrace this South American dance.

WHEN: Thursday, April 18, 2024. 5:30  – 9:30 p.m.

WHERE: Buena Onda + Empanadas

724 Haley Street, Santa Barbara, 93103

Grammy Award musicians of The Gorczynski Tango Quartet will delight you with the sounds of the new vanguard of Tango & Jazz

Our 2024 season also includes:

– Nomad Tango Movie Nights;

– Destination:Tango, a program where we host Distinguished Tango Maestros from elsewhere in the country and the world;

– Nomad:Academy, an online series of lectures;

– Monday Práctica at the Carrillo Rec Center, now in its 10th year;

And more.

Nomad Tango emerged in the aftermath of the pandemic with the urgent mission of supporting dancers, musicians, and teachers of Tango Argentino. Back in 2021, the intimate nature of close-contact dancing was impossible, music gatherings were scarce, and theaters were shuttered. Tango faced a challenging time.

Recognizing the significance of this art form, declared a World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2009, we committed to reviving tango. Over time, tango has not only recovered but is thriving, and Nomad Tango has transitioned to a new phase. Our current approach involves a two-pronged strategy:

  1. Community Support and Expansion: We aim to enhance the enjoyment of tango in local communities through practicas, classes, and shows featuring live music and professional tango dancing.
  2. Development of the Art Form: This includes exploring new show formats, music styles, and evolving dance forms to propel the art into the future.
  3. Bridging the distance between Tango in Argentina and in the US. We aim to maintain a rich tango environment by cross-pollination between artists and dancers in the US and in Argentina.

Nomad Tango is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in Santa Barbara in 2021 to promote and support Tango. Since its early days, it has grown into an immersive world of tango that involves tango classes, workshops, history, milongas (tango parties), tango shows, and collaborative efforts with other creative individuals in the art scene.
