WHEN: March 5, 6, and 7 and 7pm and March 7 at 1pm

721 E Cota St
Santa Barbara, CA 93103

Grabbing the production rights to one of America’s most beloved musicals just ahead of its much anticipated Broadway Revival (with Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster in October), Lights Up! Theatre Company will present Meredith Willson’s The Music Man at the Marjorie Luke Theatre on March 5th and 6th at 7pm, and March 7th at 1pm and 7pm.

Showcasing some of Santa Barbara’s brightest teen actors, Lights Up! will bring to the Santa Barbara community this energetic and charming story following the (mis) adventures of a traveling salesman as he tries to con a small town in Iowa into buying his instruments in the false hope of starting a boy’s band. “This is a musical crowd-pleaser,” says Director and co-founder of Lights Up! Theatre Company, Amy Love. The Music Man won is a winner of five Tony Awards and ranked by Smithsonian as one of the “great glories” of American popular culture.  “It is a story about love and inspiration, and we could all use a little of that right now,” says Love. “There is something special when you have a group of teens telling the story of how inspiration can change the world; and that kind of gives you hope for the next generation.”

Lights Up!’s membership of 35 actors represents students from 14 schools in the Santa Barbara area. Lights Up! prides itself as Santa Barbara’s creative home for teen actors. “Because it is a company-based program, it creates a place of belonging, acceptance, and growth for teens during a crucial time in their lives. And they do this all while keeping the bar high with professional training and fully staged productions at local venues,” says Erica Schrieber, Parent and Advisory Board member of Lights Up!

Lights Up! will return to the Marjorie Luke Theatre for its production of The Music Man, after its successful musical debut of Big Fish last spring. The company received rave reviews and blossoming interest in the company and its values after its smash performance. Earlier this season, Lights Up! performed Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the Center Stage Theatre to a sold-out audience! The final production of the season will be a student-produced showcase on Sunday, April 19th to finish off a successful year.

Tickets for The Music Man – a show for all ages – are available at lightsupsb.com, or at the door. Ticket prices are $59 (VIP); $28 (adult); and $18 (student/teacher).
