March Audubon Program Features Hugh Ranson

February 27, 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm PST

Bird Shorts: Made Up Stories about Birds and Birders is the topic of the Audubon Society’s monthly program to be held Wednesday, March 27 at the Faulkner Gallery, Santa Barbara Library from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. The program is free of charge.

You are invited to this Santa Barbara Audubon first: A night of bird fiction! Join us for an evening of short stories about birders and the birds that fuel their passion, from the creative mind of Santa Barbara’s esteemed bird columnist Hugh Ranson. His recent work focuses on finding new ways to write about the lives of birders, their relationships with one another, and the creatures that send them out into the field on those wild chases.

Hugh Ranson was born in England and lived in Wales before coming to California in 1981. He became a birder at the age of 12. Since retiring from his 32-year career as an elementary school teacher, he gets out in the field every day to look for and photograph birds and bugs. He has had several short stories published and has written two novels for young adults. Ranson currently writes “Santa Barbara Birding,” a monthly bird article for the Santa Barbara Independent.
