Local Music Lover Brings Patti Smith to Santa Barbara to Benefit CADA

March 3, 2020 @ 3:00 am PST

Earl Minnis, along with the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse are presenting Patti Smith, an Intimate Concert by the Sea, March 3rd of 2020. The show will be an exclusive, 100-person private concert at spectacular beach-front home in Montecito. Smith was last in Santa Barbara 2 years ago to a sold-out show at the Granada Theatre.

Minnis, President of the Minnis Group, has found a niche in bringing iconic musicians to Santa Barbara to benefit local charities. “It’s a passion of the heart”, says Minnis, who adds “What’s not to love about hearing unbelievable music and at the same time supporting our counties vital non-profits?”

Minnis has been a major benefactor and organizer behind such shows as Jackson Brown for the Fire Fighters Alliance, Dennis Quiad for Make A Wish, Steve Miller for Notes for Notes, John Kay and the Dirty Knobbs for Kay’s Elephant Preserve and Alan Parson Project, Chubby Checker and Eric Burdon from the Animals all for CADA. Minnis’ efforts have helped to raise over $2,000,000 for local charities.

Patti Smith is an American singer-songwriter, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, poet and author. In 1975 Patti Smith’s first recording, Horses, was inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress in 2010 by The Library of Congress by the National Recording Preservation Board. Her subsequent albums are Radio Ethiopia, Easter, and Wave, Dream of Life, Gone Again, Peace and Noise, Gung Ho, Trampin, Land, Twelve, Banga. Outside Society, and Horses/Horses. She is a four time Grammy nominee, most recently nominated for a 2017 Grammy for the spoken word recording of her latest book M Train, and a Golden Globe nominee for the song Mercy Is from the film Noah.  Author of the acclaimed memoir, Just Kids, which chronicled her friendship and journey in art with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, Patti Smith was awarded the 2010 National Book Award. Patti Smith also holds the honor of “Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres” from the French Ministry of Culture, and has been awarded honorary doctorates from several universities.

The event will raise funds for CADA’s many substance abuse prevention and intervention services. The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse was established in 1949 by a small group of Santa Barbara citizens and has grown into the largest organization in the county for the prevention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse, serving over 18,000 youth and adults over its 70 years of service.
